I have a M1860 Spencer Carbine with a serial number of 60521.  The first number is difficult to read and at first I thought it was a 3, but under closer examination it is a 6.  My Great, great grandfather was in the 11th Pa. Cav. and in Nov. 1864 outside Petersburg, Va., they were issued Spencers and he carried it into battle at Chapins Farms where he was wounded.  I was hopeing  it would be possible to find a reference to that serial number.  Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much,

Hi,

My highest serial # for an 1860 Spencer Carbine is 59867 and that was issued to a member of Co G, 18th New York Volunteer Cavalry.  I don't have anything else closer to your serial # 60521.

Are you sure of the # on your Spencer Carbine?

Thanks Two Flints
I just took another close look at it and I am sure it is a 6.  Of all the numbers that is the one that is struck the lightest, the others are nice and deep.  It is my understanding that the serial number range for the Civil War issue was between 11,000 - 61,000, is that still correct?  The front sight of this carbine has been replaced with a piece of a 1860 seated liberty dime.
Thanks again for your help.
