Maybe looking at getting another 1876. This one in 50-95 Uberti.
I already have a Chappy in 45-60.
Been doing some reading about using 50 Alaskan brass formed to 50-95.
Will this work and is the head measurements the same?
Trying to cut a few corners on prices of components but maybe its not posable.
What have others done? Would like your imput before I spend the cash on the gun.
I do like the sounds of a 50-95. Love the BIG bores.

Sorry. Another question.
Would the RCBS winchester dies work or does one have to use the 4-D dies for the Uberti's?
Almost 100.00 diference.

sheikss

Jamison is making brass and from what I understand you have to use the uberti dies. I believe there is some differences between the original 50 and the uberti 50 ammo.

i have an Uberti .50-95 and LOVE it.

I have 100 rounds of Ten-X brass that works well, but was very priceyat $3.00 each.

I bought 20 rounds of 50 Alaskan and tried that.  It worked OK, but the rims are a little thick.

Jamison now makes their own .50-95 brass.  I just bought 100 rounds from Buffalo Arms.  It looks great and is well worth the price of $135 for 100 rounds.  Proper headstamps, formed and ready to load.  I recommend going this route.

I use the CH4D Uberti dies dies and they work fine.

Go for it!

Thanks guys.
I need to get with my FFL guy and get it ordered.

Did I read that you [ndnchf] had to get a different size for your bell die from CH4D?
I know I will have to slug the barrel and see what I have for a size first.
Thanks

I may have mentioned in a previous post that I did get a larger expander plug.  The plug that came with the dies was .509".  My groove diameter is .5136", so I got a .512" expander plug.  I like to use .514"- .515" bullets.  The .512" plug works good, but I could probably go up to a .513" or .514" plug.  If you slug your bore first, then order the dies from CH4D, you can specify the expander plug size you want.    If I recall correctly, extra expander plugs are only around $20. So it is affordable to get several sizes if you need to.

I'll keep the expander plug in mind.
It sounds like Buffalo arms has every thing I'm going to need other then the plug and maybe the mold.
I can't remember off hand if they had the 515139 but I think they do.
So I can get every thing in one place.
I hope Taylor's has the gun in stock.
Man I'm realy looking forward to this. ;D

BACO is about as close to "one stop" shopping as you'll find anywhere.  They are good folks. I've used the 515139 and its a pretty good bullet.  Its only shortcoming being the lack of lube carrying ability for multiple shots without cleaning. Upon advice from others, I picked up a Rapine 350T mould.  It was actually designed for use in the Taylors & Co. Spencer.  It's a little over 350gr. but works very well in the .50-95 and carrys more lube than the 515139.  The 515139 carries 1.25grs. of SPG, while the 350T carrys 2.0grs.  That's a significant increase.  Do a search on the forum for "350T" for more info.  Ray Rapine makes this mould in 3 different diameters.  I got mine in .515".
