Air Brushes

Howdy Pards,

I am considering the purchase of an airbrush...does anyone use one and is it a single or double action type?  What brand do you prefer?

I used to use one all the time when I had my shop at home and I could go outside and spray. Did it once in the house with lots of paper on the carpet. Lifted the paper and had overspray 3ft away. (Not Good)
I still use it on very large plain pieces of leather when I have to dye them and not stain.
I have both single and double action. For pinpoint work I use the dbl. For large areas I use the single. If you get one make sure it is a good one not a cheap $10 model. Get a good moisture trap and regulate the air pressure way down. I think it's somewhere around 14psi. I have a port on my compressor that is just for the airbrush so I have not looked at it in a long time.
I used to do all my background dyeing and accent work with the airbrush.

Thanks for the info..I was considering the Passche Millenium dbl. action..It's about $150.00  By the way I am about to post some pictures of a knife sheath I just finished for one of my fellow shooters...first time I have used that braid stamp I got from Bob Beard.  Took a little learning curve but I think I have the alignment down now.  Comments appreciated.

Nosey JD here, asking what to me is the obvious question; if you used to use the Airbrush, why don't you use it now? Is it just because of the hassle that comes from setting up to spray outside, or is there some other less obvious reason? Like I said, Nosey, and you can always say BUTT OUT

I just don't have a place to do it here. Always some kind of a breeze, no room for the compressor, etc.

WC, You do have a limited area, considering how much you have going on in that store-shop. If I lived anywhere near there, it would definitely be my hangout

I've done a little airbrush work in the past. WC is right on the pressure. That's about what I use. My airbrush will do thin lines but it clogs if I use Fiebings dye. Lincoln goes through it nicely. On a wide pattern to color a lot of area, it works great.

havent used a air brush to dye my projects. but i have used the spray bottle you get at napa store, tandy now sells it.

its the one that has a bottle for the paint/dye with the spray part being the air and nozzle. cost $10 bucks.
works well for me. i can dye a large item with ease.

The Preval sprayers work well for large items. It just never failed that the can ran out before I finished a job

that sounds like my luck. lucky i havent made a large enough project yet.

I've used those Preval sprayers. They're a good product for large areas. I've screwed larger bottles on them, too, when I wanted more coverage. You have to extend the pick-up line to the bottom when you do that.
