WTB Reasonably Priced Cross-Draw and Shot Belt

As leather experts, perhaps you have some suggestions on where to buy a reasonably priced set of cross-draw holsters and a matching shot belt with shot shell and cartridge loops? Most I see run $500 to $600 or more for both. Where can a reasonably good set be purchased?

try Cochise Leather talk to Dave that's where i got mine,or some of the guys here that do leather.Mine was just crossdraw rig no bullet holders,but got mine about 3 years ago.Check out his way cool t-shirts too,i have a couple ,they are very well made and won't fade.

Another avenue is to check with your local club; let it be known that you are looking for a certain rig. Of times a member may have bought exactly what you want, found it didn't work for him, and will sell it for 1/2 to 1/3 of what he originally purchased if for ... or check with holster makers for projects that were ordered but never paid for ... I got a superb blackpowder belt for about half the normal cost ... he even cut it down to my size with no charge ....

KG, you've come to the right place to look. I believe GunClick Rick and WWE both offered you some excellent advice.

If you are looking for an entry level rig, I would suggest Cabela's, or a sporting goods store. I bought my first rig at Sportsman's Warehouse pretty inexpensively, and got exactly what I paid for. They sell products from the Hunter Company out of Colorado, which makes (IMO) entry level products.

Frankly, the price you mention for a double holster rig with a shotgun belt is not a high price for a good quality rig. However, I do understand financial constraints, believe me!

There are a lot of leather craftsmen on this forum who could make you a real nice rig (I'm not one of them, too green) and most likely under the price you mention. Time is money, and good quality leather is not cheap, so the more you want, the more it generally costs.

Another Thought,

Use a wide western belt that you already own and put some cartridge slides on it ... I have two five round slides for .45 that are yours if you need them ... just send me a PM with your address ....

Then use the money you saved on a cartridge belt to buy the best holsters you can find .... I am very partial to Will Ghormleys ...

Ask him if he has an unbought or extra holster for your guns ... again, you might get a really good price ... but I paid full price for the ones I have, and bought a cartridge belt to match the holsters ....

Thanks You for checking with us. There are quite a few of us here that do this for a liveing, and there are some fellows here that really "Raise the Bar" with there hobby work as well.

I should be able to help you....and there should be a few more folks along shortly to offer there sevices as well..

We need some more info so we know what you are after.

What are your guns?

How fancy? tooling, stamping, spots, etc,?

What style holster? / Belt?

Do you need the cartridge loops on the belt or will cartridge slides work for you?

Color?? ( dyes and finishes can add a lot of time/expense to a rig)

I know that you can find someone here to help you ...There is some Great Work posted here from the locals.

Just a thought about reinventing the wheel ...

You say that you have a right hand holster and cartridge belt that you are happy with ....

I would find who made the original holsters (there is a maker's mark somewhere on them), and see if the original maker can make a crossdraw holster that would match your rig and holsters (Both in style and in color) ... that way, you would only be out the cost of one holster ...

BTW, if you are having a holster made, the 30 degree cant rule for crossdraw holsters can be interpreted to include any cant off horizontal by the cartridge belt ... so if your belt tends to drop in the front, a 25 or 20 degree holster might be advisable ....
