Not to turn this political but after reading Sir Charles reply I decided to look up 'belt buckle knives' and found quite a bit of info, including the fact that I was apparently wrong concerning these being declared illegal to carry by the BATF.  Im not much of a knife historian so my question for you collectors would be, how old is the push dagger design?  Even if it were around on the frontier, my thought is that only those who would want something smaller and more concealable would want them.  Primarily as a defensive weapon for the gambler or 'ladies of ill-repute'.  The problem is that, if ones intent is costuming, concealed weapons can not add much to the look!!!  An interesting look might be to try and figure a way to combine sheath construction with sleeve garters to create a gamblers appearance.  Since part of my vision of a gambler is the wearing of white ruffled shirts, a push dagger worn around the sleeve should have a nice contrasting color.  My vote is black Buffalo horn for the handle and red for the garter sheath.  ;)

Thanks Slowhand, I've been thinling of a garter knife as one of the variations.

Great posts boys, keep them coming!
