Fly'n' to KC for the Convention

If all goes as planned, and the creek don't rise ..a Pard and I are flying out to the convention.
That said what are the Airline/ Dept Of Homeland Securty rules to fly with your side arm ?

I know, it used to be it had to be unloaded in a locked case in the checked luggage.
I haven't flown with Firearms since 911.
What new wrinkles have the Feds come up with... or is there a Web Site to review ?

That's great news.  As far as flying with a gun, well I haven't flown since 911 either so I can't help you.  But why not just let us know what you would like to carry, bring the leather and one of us that's driving will brin the hardware for you.  I did that for US Scout a couple of years back.

Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) states:

"The FAA requires passengers carrying firearms in checked baggage to declare that firearm to the airline. Firearms must be unloaded, and in a lockable container suitable for air transportation and the bag checked in at the ticket counter. In addition, we recommend that you contact your airline to determine any airline specific requirements."

I fly yearly to hunt.  I usually fly Northwest Airlines.  My experience with them:  The firearm must be in a "TSA approved" lockable container and be separate from other luggage and ammo.  At the check-in desk, I declare my firearms.  They then shuttle you to a side desk where a TSA agent watches you open the containter and observes that the firearm is unloaded (open action, glance at chamber).  They place a signed orange card in the case with the firearm indicating the firearm has been inspected.  I have heard some airlines will limit you to a max of 2 firearms per container.

My plan was to bring my Richards Type I  or my R&M Navy ...but not both.
Maybe a C&B would be better one of my 1860's

My pard would need a Pietta Remington..

I have no plan to lug around any long gun
