OK Pards... sorry but I've just got to let off some steam.
First, I hate plastic guns.  The sight of a Glock or Sigma makes me want to vomit!  I think guns should be made of steel and the grip should be wood or some other natural material.  No plastic guns in my gun safe!  I do have three guns with plastic grips but I intend to replace them with grips of wood or bone or horn of something like that.
Second I wish folks would stop referring to the 45 Colt cartridge as "45 Long Colt" or "45 LC".  Colt calls it the 45 Colt and that's the way it's always been.  Anyone with half a brain who knows anything about guns knows there's the 45 Colt, the 45 ACP, 45 S&W, 45-70, etc.  They are all different rounds.  45 Long Colt does not exist.  Then for the gamers they came up with the "45 Special" which just serves to muddy up the waters even more.  Maybe that's why we now are getting so much of this LC thing.

There has been some debate over why Wild Bill Hickok carried a brace of 1851 Navy cap and ball revolvers long after the 1873 Peacemaker and metalic cartridge ammo were around.  Maybe it was due to availability, or a lack there-of, of the new fangled ammo.  I told my wife that maybe Wild Bill was a stubborn, old curmudeon like me who just didn't take to new fangled devices and ideas.  I do admire him for practicing each morning and therefore starting each day with freshly loaded pistols.

Now I could also vent about the current political sceen, but that's a whole other can of worms.  I'll just say, support the NRA now!
OK... I'm off the soap box, for now.   ::)

These Yanks up here where I live don't know what Ammo is what! If I ask for 45 Colt at most places round here I get 45 ACP. Only a couple places round here I can ask for 45 auto and get 45 ACP, or ask for 45 Colt and get 45 Colts. I aint got no plastic guns in my arsenal either. Just sold the only plastic gun I had. ( Kel Tek PF9 ) I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with that gun. Please note I did say I couldn't. I know some people are good with em. I only shoot single actions! I replaced the PF9 with a Cimmaron Thunderer as my carry gun! I carry my 1911 some also!

I reckin everyone is entitled to there opinion though! Just as long as they don't try and change mine!

Umm, have you looked at the Colt catalog?
QuoteColt revolvers come in six standard calibers.  Choose the classic .45 Long Colt or any of five others to suit your taste: .357, .32/20, .38 Special, .44/40, .38/40.

Mr. Lamar... I'm aware that Colt and many other gun makers and gun writers have jumped onto the "45 Long Colt" band wagon, but that still don't make it right.  I know my ranting and raving about it ain't gonna change nothin'.  I'm just venting is all.  Oh and for the record... I don't own no 9s either.   :(

Danny, it's like this pard, when Volkswagen just had one model, every one knew what a VW was, when they started having more offerings, people had to refer to the first VW as the bug, it's the same for the Colt 45, I even had a clerk hand me two boxes of 45 acp when I asked for 45 Colt, My Granddad told me they were calling the the first colt 45, 45 long Colt back in the late 1800's, because of the other calibers that came out in 45 after the 45 long,  he was born in 1886 so he grew up in this time period, I'm sure you've heard of the 38 long, using the term long just made it easier for every one to understand what the other party was asking for or talking about.

44-40 takes a back seat to no other caliber

"Short" rounds for the .45 COLT guns have been with us since the 1800s.  There was the .45 Gov't" which was never properly headstamped (it read .45 Colt" on the cases, just like it's long sister) as well as the .45 WEBLEY (not .455) which was designed by the Brits for use in Webley Green and SAA revolvers by the British foreign services.  And that doesn't count the .45 S&W (aka Schofield) that might fit, depending on the gun in use.  All of those existed prior to JMB's .45 ACP, and all of those saw service in military use around the world, even as late as WWII (lots were sold surplus after WWI).  I can see a 1920 customer in a hardware asking "Ya got any .45 LONG COLT?" he didn't want Schofield or Gov't or any of that Brit surplus (.45 WEB) stuff, he wanted LONG COLT, so folks knew what he wanted.

Just like now, ya want a Ruger Vaquero, ya almost gotta ask for a "big Vaquero" or "old vaquero", even though there ain't any such thing, or they'll bring ya a "new vaquero".....

Well the next dummy that says "point blank range" with out knowing how far that is deserves a throat punch.  Hint, it don't always mean at powder burn range. ;)
