Problem with Reduced Powered Main Spring

I purchased a couple of reduced power main springs from VTI for my Cabela's Remmys.  I read that these are mainly of use with cartridge conversions and that they may or may not set caps off consistently.  I when last weekend to try one, with caps, in one of my pistols.  It worked perfectly in my pistol.  I was really excited because they make such a big difference in the way this pistol feels.

Got home cleaned the gun with the last step being putting a drop of Ballistol on the hammer roller.  As soon as I did that the spring just rolled off the hammer and laid flat against the back strap of the frame.  Now no matter what I try I can't get the thing to stay on the hammer roller.  I am baffled.  Anyone else run into this?

If the spring is a bit short, as it seems to be, put a spacer in the slot below the bottom of the spring, perhaps a piece of wire or drill bit, short enough to fit between the wood grip panels.  This will boost the spring upward enough to keep it from popping out from under the roller.

I've experienced that problem too, typically when using a reduced-power spring that was intended for a Pietta pistol in a Uberti.  Going the other way, I got the opposite problem -- a slightly over-length spring that wasn't as "reduced" in power as it otherwise would be.  I'm not saying that's your problem.  I'm saying that's the experience I had.

Adding a spacer beneath the bottom of the spring, thereby raising it up some, should help.  You might also watch how much tension you put on the spring retaining screw -- too much may cause it to pop loose from the roller again.

Pards,

Thank you both very much. I had some brass stock that needed a little filing to fit but it worked.  It is very interesting that I had to adjust the size of the filler block.  If it was to high the pistol would work find but the tension was a little high.  If I got it a little to low the pistol would work but it would bind just a little before the hammer when back all the way.  Eventually I got the right size and it is working like a charm.  Again thank you for your help.
