Hello SSS,

As I dissembled the center block to clean the firing pin (they were still clean after firing over 100+ rds), I noticed a small piece of metal was broken off from the little block that was behind the firing pin and the spring. I believe that small metal was there to cover the firing pin and spring. Don't know how much to replace it but I doubt it will affect the function of the firing pin even if it is not there. Have you heard anyone describing that problem before?

Just posting this (through Two Flints) for "informational" purposes only.  See photos below, which I Emailed to Two Flints, who posted them for me.

Thanks for looking,

Thank you very much Two Flints in posting the pictures and question for me.

I believe that this part is called the firing pin carrier. This is one of the parts I just sent to Taylors for and experiienced their rip-off "postage and handling". I wanted some spare parts. Man, did I pay for 4 parts! The Spencer firing system used to be simple until it was changed to center fire. Now it has a "transfer bar" (this used to be the firing pin) that is screwed to the part that you found broken. The hammer hits the transfer bar/firing pin carrier and drives the firing pin into the primer. You will also notice the end of the "transfer bar" that is hit by the hammer is peined over due to impact. This may or may not be important. When I get the spare part, the original part is going into Taylors for replacement.  Could that little tip be brazed back on?

Yeap, I know. Just ordered a bunch of small replacement parts (firing pin, firing pin spring, rear sight spring, Precussion plate screws, magazine spring, main spring, rear sight slide...etc) before the whole gun fall apart  :P.
Right after Two flint posted those pictures, I noticed one of the small screw that holding the precussion plate to the firing pin carrier broke during the shot in the following week, I will post a picture later.

I am also going to make a new front sight blade (make it taller) so that I could simply flip up the rear sight for all the distances (from 50yds to 200 yds). I noticed that as I flip the rear sight up for 100yd, the sight picture drifted a bit to the left, there is a small gap between the sight and the sight base which the sight could drift back and forth. I put a small thin washer there to stop the drifting. It will be a nice little project again for the off-season  ;D

here is the broken screw on the Precussion Plate...strange that it will break like this.
