I have an ASM .31 Remmie that I would like to put replacent grips on, preferably slightly oversize.

Imitation Stag would be nice, does anyone know of a source or am I gonna have to make my own.

Thanks in advance.

You'll have to make your own.  I think you can get stag slabs from Dixie, look under knife handle (scales).

Thanks 44Cal, I thought that might be the case, I have looked around and none of the grip makers mention the little .31.

I have found a source over here in the UK that sells Buffalo Horn so I think I may get a chunk of that and see what I can do.

Thanks again.

Ned,

I have a Pietta 1863 Remington that has been extensively modified. It now fires .32 S&W short and has a handmade brass full trigger guard.

But Eagle Grips said they would fit grips to it if I would send them the pistol.

As I remember, it was reasonable in price ....

Ned, Paladin,

The brass trigger guard was made by the previous owner from brass stock.

He said he used th old spur trigger guard to match the mating surface perimeter and the placement for the mounting screws .... then once he had the  base of the trigger guard where it met smooth with the frame and the holes drilled for the mounting screws in the right place, he just filed out the trigger guard by hand.

I don't want to blurt out the original owner's name, but I will check to see if he is interested in making more .....

Hi,

There are at least three guys on this forum who are intreested in getting faux grips for their 1863 Pocket Remmies ...

What say we pool the orders and see if we can get a better price and quicker return?

I am posting the grip shown on the classified ... again, the post on the classified sasys that it is a Gripmaker set of faux bone grips ...

I am working on an actual vintage Police .36 that was missing the guard. I have an older ASM Remington in .44 and was playing around with the trigger guard on it. It is longer and wider, but has enough spare meat to it that I was able to grind it down and make it fit. It is slightly different than an original, what with a larger gap behind the trigger and the guard. Funny, the trigger will swing the full width of that gap, but it only needs a small portion of it to release the hammer. I bought an unfinished one from VTI for an ASM and got it to work just as envisioned. My next step is to see if I can get someone to braze in a little extra material in front of the rear part of the guard to correct that minor appearance issue. All the shaping was done using a Dremmel with a few grinding wheels along with a couple of fine metal files and assorted grits of sandpaper, up to and including some wet or dry down to about 1000 grit. Took only a couple of hours and the in the rough trigger guard was under $20.
I'll see if I can get a picture of it up here now that I got rid of my comp virus!

Sounds like you have far more dexterity and vishual skills than I do .... I am much better off buying someone else's finished project ...*S*

Glad you got rid of your computer virus ..... they can be such a hassle!

Here is a before and after of what the rough cast ASM replacement did for the 36 police. I am still looking to modify it, have a couple thoughts on how to do it that I will try. Had to make the plunger assembly twice but now it is pretty much dead on.
