I was under the impression that the 3 1/2 inch barrels were fantasy Schofield's?? I thought they only cut them to 5 inch barrels. This looks like at least one was made.

This gun is cal. 45s&w and I think is one of the US surplus guns that the goverment sold to the dealers at the time when they ended the contract with S&W because of the problem with the S&W 45 ammo was shorter than the 45colt and 45 colt will not work as it is to long for the schofield so they were sold to dealers at that time and the dealers shortened the barrels for Wells Fargo and some for civilian use. If you look at the age of the end of barrel I am sure this is one of them. The gun works good and the bore has rifleing but is lightly pitted. the grips are original but I can not see the cartuches on them but the are numbered and the gun has inspectors marks and all parts are numbered and match. Nickel guns are rare. This gun is a excellent historic example of the old west and some one should get a letter from Roy Jinks to show the history of the gun.

I won't be wronged, I won't be insulted, and I won't be laid a hand on. I don't do these things to other people and I require the same of them."

YUP. I've seen a passel of nice condition vintage revolvers with their barrels "whacked" down to 2 1/2" to 4" for sale at the local auction house, Smiths, Merwins, Colts all models and flavors.....you name it..

Nearly brings a tear to my eye to recall the sadness of the sight...
