When refering to smith work on Rugers i have heard several cowboys mention having the hammers welded up. What are they talking about?

I assume they are talking about removing the transfer bar and welding a piece of metal to the hammer so that is will contact the firing pin.

Hey Slim is this supposed to improve the action?

I am not sure. But if you put in a "four-click" hammer it will almost be like an Old Model.

Just  takes the T-Bar out of the equation. Probably the only thing you can break on a Ruger..........Buck 8) :o :)
I might be slow, but I'm mostly accurate.....

Doc will show up and set all this straight some day but let me scratch my head, I don't think it improves the action so much as yep like Four-Eyed Buck said,"Just  takes the T-Bar out of the equation. Probably the only thing you can break on a Ruger"

And I hear that they break more often than one would think....

I think to make it safe after that you need to cut a half cock notch in the hammer so you will have some sort of safety device.  Some place for the hammer to be that isn't fully cocked and not all the way down on the firing pin.

I don't know what breaks on a Ruger.  I have 3 at the present time and have had 6 others.  Nothing ever broke on any of them.  My current Factory Custom Sheriff's Model further customized by adding a Qualite' Birdshead grip by yours truly, has been dry fired at least 10,000 times.  Most with A-Zooms or other snap caps.

There's been reports of broken T-Bars in the last year or so. I know for sure that Doc Shapiro has busted some................Buck 8) :o

Hey Reelfoot, how are you doing?  It's heating up some down here since Memorial Day.  I just put some Wolff springs in my New Vaquero's.  I've never had anything break on a Ruger, so I guess it's to make them like Colts.

Just had this work done on my Bounty Hunter revolvers. They had licensed the transfer bar from Ruger and 3 weeks ago one broke.

Doesnt improve the action just cuts down on things that could go wrong.

Well Howdy Pards,

Yep, I do a lot of these, been doing them, now I'm not saying this just because I do them, but if ya had your T-bar removed and it is not any better then some one didn't do a good job on yours.
All the one I do whether it is for the 4 click ore the short stroke, is a LOT smoother. Stands to reason that with the T-bar out ya don't have to have the heavy springs to push it up against the base-pin plunger and then the firing pin also, so should be a lot better.

Just letting ya know there are a lot of pars that do this, not just a few. ;)

See Ya, and Thanks.
