Howdy Silver Rings,  :)
That old Singer 29 is a good machine, the call them a shoe patcher! I have one just like it,a lot of those machine were turned into electric, but I don't have threadle >:( >:( i wished I could find the threadle part, i have looked and looked!! No Luck.
If any one runs across a threadle base that is for sale, please give me a shout!

Ace,

Singer still makes the treadle base and machine for third world countries.

If you go to a Singer store and the rep really knows what he's doing, after he tells you that Singer has no treadles available (and he means made for US consumption), ask him about the exportation models they have for third world countries ... where electricity is often a monied privilege.

Again, if he really know his stuff, he can get a base for you. And as far as I know, it is basically the same base cabinet and same treadle machine ... even down to those beautiful cast iron legs ...

I have a circa 1916 Singer .... where the electric motor was an option, and the big heavy flywheel is still there for treadle and hand work. The motor screws on the back and has a hand operated clutch that engages the motor ( or disengages it to work the treadle...)

P.S. I have never used this machine on leather. I have always wondered just how thick a leather and how big a thread I could use on this fine antique without possibility of damage. If anyone has experience on this machine, please PM or email me (My email is on my profile).

Thanks!

Howdy WW,
I will bet you if they would sell me the base it would be  more than I could afford! Can you post a picture of the machine that has the treadle?

Ace,

As usual I jumped right in the mely without checking ... I had thought you were talking about home treadle like mine ... not a commercial base like the one shown.

Yet I am sure that for cobblers and such in third world nations that they sell much the same product as the commercial machine
at the start of the post .... it wodl be like reinventing the wheel when they already have a machine (and all the tooling) required to make the original ....

This style machine is also made by Artisan (model 29-273BB) available with both hand wheel or motorized on a stand, and by Ferdco (model 2973 and 2973 LB)....and is currently available here in the USA.....Ace...why not get ahold of Artisan or Ferdco  and see if you can buy the parts you need.
