Joss...
That looks like the same bunch from the old posse...especially the big guy, third from the right.

Bill

Actually they're all from the old posse except for the one on the far left. We just can't ever get everyone together at the same time. We have 22+ NCOWS members and usually only 8-9 members attend a monthly shoot and it's never the same 8-9 members. This new shooting location is closer for some and farther for others. Most all our posse members are from a radius of about 150-200 miles in all directions. Only a hand full are from Bakersfield where I live and in that photo only two are from B-field. One really has to be dedicated to drive the distance they have to be a part of our NCOWS posse. That's why it's going to be so difficult to develop a shooting range. Our hope is we will start gaining new members from where the range is located in Tehachapi CA.

Joss:

Nonetheless a great start, pardner, with 22 members. Just keep in mind that building anything worthwhile is a marathon, not a sprint. It takes time, patience and most of all perseverance from an individual or small group of individuals who simply won't give up.

It's obvious that your commitment (and those of your core group) to NCOWS' ideals are much to be admired. Persisting as you guys have in the face of adversity deserves a tip o' the hat from us all.

Just thought I'd post a photo of our new/ future shooting range at Tehachapi Sportsman Club. We are going to have to develop our own shooting area if we decide to make this our permanent location. Man it's going to be hard to give up our beautiful mountain shooting location for this barren spot. The wind usually kicks up to 30-50 mph daily year round. That's why you see those 'authentic' power windmills in the background. Unfortunately we are being driven out of our remote mountain areas and it's either shoot here or fade away. Who knows, with a few hundred thousand dollars we may be able to develop a nice place to shoot. OK Joss, stay positive. :-\

Why are you giving up your forested shooting spot? Government regulations coming down on you?

Incidentially, I liked the photos of your encampment, that looked like a real fun place to enjoy.

The wife and I are up for a campout/shoot. I have two small dogs I would have to bring under 12 pounds.
I have the gear and even have a wall tent.

Danny: Really nice camp. But you guy's look like a pretty dangerous crowd for the good people on the left coast. I will keep my eyes on Fox news for any updates about you (Today police raided a remote camp of ....,). Regards, Jim  ;)

How do you get a promo DVD Bill?

Ottawa Creek Bill

Duke....
Once the filming for this DVD is finished, They will be made available free to the NCOWS posse's to promote our organization at events such as gun shows, outings, fairs, reenactments etc.

I'm gonna let Lone Gunman (George Warnick, our editor) decide who gets these. If there is an individual that would like a copy George may ask for a small donation....say $15.00 plus postage (first come first served) and donate those funds to NCOWS. But only after each posse receives a couple of copies.

I really haven't decided whether I want to get into duplicating this DVD as there are costs involved and I'm donating my time and equipment to make it. If George wants to do it.....I'll make sure that these can be copied.

NCOWS can not, to my knowledge, accept donations nor can they sell anything due to the type of non-profit we have.
I'm sure Yuma City may offer some guidance, along with The Editor's input, but the exact mechanics will have to be worked out. It may be left that you, Bill, since these are a product of your own, may sell them as you see fit, but I'm not sure whether it can go through NCOWS as an agent.

p.s. By the by, what arrangements do we need to make for you to be able to mail back the Rock Creek DVD?

Actually this is a product of all the NCOWS posse's that took part in this project and also the individuals that sent material to me. All I am doing is using my expertise to put it all together.

I will send your DVD back sometime next week.

Of course NCOWS can accept donations and sell things RCJ; I can't imagine why you would think otherwise. I would like to offer the following evidence which you can relate to on a personal level:

The Lightning Rifle you won at the '09 Convention was a donation to NCOWS, the raffle tickets that won it for you were sold by NCOWS.

To address this more technically, the IRS classifies NCOWS as a 501(c)(7) tax exempt social/recreation club. While most of our money must come from membership fees, it is allowable for up to 35% of our gross receipts to come from nonmembership sources. Our largest source of nonmembership income is the advertising we sell in The Shootist, other sources include various raffles; fund raising auctions; the selling of cups, pins, decals, back-issues of the magazine etc. The only stipulation concerning donations is that the donors are not allowed to deduct donations to 501(c)(7)'s on their income tax returns as charitable donations the way they can deduct donations to 501(c)(3) charities such as the Salvation Army etc.  However, most of the donations we receive for door prizes etc, are most likely deducted by the donors as advertising expense.  Anyone desiring a more in-depth explanation of 501(c)(7) corporations should refer to that section of IRS publication 557.
