I'm looking at the new James D. Julia auctions catalog and notice that the 66 yellowboys are listed as either 44RF or 44CF.  Would the 44CF be similar to the 44RF with the addition of a primer pocket?  Am I right to assume that both cartridges have the same overall measurements, mas-o-menos?  Just curious.

Here is one selection listed as 44CF.  Notice how all the sharp corners on the brass receiver have been softened giving it a real smooth look.  I'm planning on doing the same to mine.  A little file work, some emery cloth, and some elbow grease is all that will be required.  Some good eye candy there guarenteed to make you drool.

The cartridge may be found in "Cartridges of the World", by Barnes in the chapter on "Obsolete American Rifle Cartridges".

Well, I did a search, something that I should have done in the first place, ( duh, just wasn't thinking) and came up with this:

I'm now satisfied, and have peace of mind.  I knew the subject had been discussed before, but just wasn't paying attention.

Apparently the 44CF was modified for the Brazilian market.  The catalog lists 16 model 66's which are to be auctioned, 4 of which are 44CF.  Apparently those 4 have somehow have made it back to their original point of orgin.

Or a backwoods gunsmith did it here.  ;)
