This is indeed odd. The first Uberti SAA clone I've ever seen with a breech recoil plate. The gun is stainless.  ???

OK, I'm confused.  What are you calling the recoil plate?

The little plate around the firing pin.  Colt's have replaceable inserts.  A lot of the clones don't.

??? Are you sure it had one? If it did, there will he a circular hole about 0.090" deep around the firing pin.

There is a special tool that goes through the barrel hole in the frame and stakes the plate in place.

Only one I've fooled with is in my ASM 1873 44-40....it is threaded.

Threaded?  ??? How can that be? It's only approx. 0.090" thick on a real Colt.

Chris Wildhunter

thanks! I 've put the recoil plate in place i've maked a special tool with a rod screw.

Thanks Pettifogger - I thought that was what he was referring to - I always thought they were called the firing pin bushing.  Learn someting new every day.

It's commonly called by both names.

Hi Pards

I have two 1860 R/M .45 S/W pistols.  The problem I have with them is it delveloped a dent around the firing pin which causes the primer to rub against the recoil plate.  I've ordered two recoil plates from Cemirron and shoud be receiving them this week or early next week.

The ? is how do I get the recoil plate off from the frame ???  Is there a better way to solve the dent in the recoil plate ???

Joe, I think you're totally confused about what is a recoil plate. There are NO recoil plates/firing pin bushings on Uberti conversions, Period. What you probably ordered was a CONVERSION ring which you do NOT need.

Montana Slim

Replacing the conversion ring on a Uberti R-M conversion is one way to solve the problem, another would be to find a knowledgeable gunsmith would will construct and install a hardened FP bushing.

To replace the conversion ring, the cylinder pin (Arbor) must be removed. To do this requires removal of the lock-pin in the frame beneath the hammer. After removal of the lock-pin, the Arbor may be removed by unscrewing it from the frame.

Good luck,
Slim
