Marshal Deadwood

A 'Second Generation' 1860Army,,or possibly a Second Gen 1851 Navy. I've wanted a second gen '60army for a long time.  Guess they are rare as Unicorn horns though,,and folks that have'em dont wanna part with them. Not that I blame them. But if'n any of ya see one you intend to pass on, I'd appreciate a heads up on it.

Thanks guys
MD

Major 2

They show up on GunBroker.com from time to time ..but your correct I don't wish to part with mine.

I'm trying to help a friend to find a home for some various items from an estate sale.  One of them was a cased 51 square back.  Now I don't know whether they came cased or whether he just bought a case for it and assembled the articles.  It appears unturned/unfired but since the previous owner is dead, I can't confirm that either.  Serial # is 21556 and best I can find is that it is ~1977 manufacturer but you can check that out yourself.  I'll try to get some pics by midweek if you are interested.  Also have a 2nd and 3rd model dragoon and a Walker, all in the second generation era but they are not quite as nice as the 51.

Montana Slim

I see them at Rock Island Auction from time to time....sometimes just piles of them....every kind ever made..Theyeven have telephonic and web-based biding so all can partake....but, they do sell for $500 - $1200 apiece, so i just keep shooting genuine Uberti or Pietta as modified by yours truly.

Slim

Marshal Deadwood,

2nd Gen's are regularly listed on gunbroker.  Sometimes they can be had for a decent (significantly less than BB value) price.  A decent price for a NIB 2nd Gen 1851 Navy would be under $400; and for a NIB 1860 Army would be under $500.  Just keep monitoring Gunbroker & I'm sure you'll find one.  I've picked up a number of 2nd Gens from GB at very low prices (and like Major2 I'm not interested in parting with any of them).

Leverluver,

The 2nd Gens (and Sig Series) could be had with Colt presentation case and accessories at time of purchase, or they could be purchased separately.  There were also some models that were only sold as cased sets.  From the SN on the '51 you reference, it is a 'C' series that was made in 1976.  The case and accessories for it at that time were a partitioned case with Colt medalion on the lid and lined in Colt Blue velvet and satin.  Accessories would have been a flask with a pewter or blue/black finish, brass two cavity bullet mold with  'Colt's Patent' stamped steel sprue cutter; An Ely Brothers cap tin, and a combination nipple wrench/screwdriver with a Colt Blue finish.

I have a 2nd Gen '51 Navy and I had to pump a lot of money into it to make it a shooter. QC varied a lot.  ;)
