Also,
Here At Columbus Nebraska we have been trying to get more interest in our Cowboy matches Ecspecialy from the home club (The Columbus Rifle Club) I have come up with a set of catagories with simplified SASS groupings with a place for NCOWS shooters and a condensed set of GAF classes.  It still comes to 11 total then double that for ladies and/or Seniors.  I am hoping this could be more of a GAF type of shooting match.  A place to shoot a match similar to what you would see at a big muster.  Maybe allow/encourage some people to get invloved with the guns and gear they have instead of having to feel they need to buy before they can participate.

We are planning a big match the end of August.  So far I have recieved NO registrations back in.  Maybe because we planned a two-day event and we are an unknown.  I hope we get a few preregitered so we know weather to even hold the event or not.
We could use all the help we can get.  I would like to see this become a home for GAF type matches for eastern Nebraska.
Our club has a History of DCM/CMP matches as well as Bolt Action Military Rifle, Bufflo Silouhette and Alvin York matches.  There was even one called ".40 and over" (caliber not age) for a while.  So I know the old time Club members have alot of the Guns and gear to shoot a GAF or CAS match.  We just can't seem to get thier interest.

Any ideas/encouragment is welcome.

Right now my work schedule is kicking my butt, (it's only monday and I already have 16 hrs) but hopefully things will settle down a little now that school has started. I AM PLANNING ON ATTENDING!  Just haven't got my registration sent yet.

Thanks Jerry,
I just hope that we can get something to turn around in the Club hear.  I don't know how much longer we can do it with just a couple of people.

Are you advertising your matches? You might try posting info on other forums here at CAS City as well as on the SASS wire. When a club is not well know it can be difficult to promote events. However with one success you can begin gaining ground rapidly. Keep up the good work.

Hey BowView, how many are at your local range? Non cowboy?  What are their reasons for not supporting you guys?

Also, what would your chances of being a monthly match, instead of a 5th sunday match? It does make it hard to remember schedules when they only come along every few months. Just listening to a lot of folks, they dont know you guys exist for the most part. I do try and correct them on that tho.

Just brainstorming, DM

We've been getting the word out as best we can through this forum and direct mailings.
We have a rifle Club of about 135 members.  MOst of whome just wand a place to shoot on thier own.
they used to do some informal (and unsafe) "cowboy" shooting but as soon as we introduced a timer and some standard SASS saftey ideas they lost interest.  Alot have some preconcieved notion that you need to buy a bunch of new clothes and gear to shoot cowboy action which we know just ain't so.  Most of what we try to tell the other )non-cowboy) club members falls on deaf ears.
As far as a different weekend.
A: most of the other weekends are already spoken for at our range.
B: there is already a well established club monthly match on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th weekends within 100-150 miles of here.
C: the 4 5th weekend matches a year are already about more than just a couple of us can handle getting set up.

Sorry to sound like I'm whining,  I just needed to vent a bit, and I do appprieciate ya all listening.

You can always go out and shoot up some targets to vent. It does relieve tension.

Hit the SASS Wire too. As grumpy as many of them are, it is well read, and gets the word out. I have attracted many of our shooters via the "other" wire.

I will keep pluggin away on my end BVH. Good luck.
