Hammer Spring Adjustment

The first time I took my Pietta 58 Remmy apart, I noted the position of the screw in the handle that pressed against the hammer spring. That screw was all the way in, applying maximum pressure against the spring. When I put my gun back together, I reproduced that, screwing it in all the way. Over time, I've come to wonder about this. It obviously makes the spring tighter, which could eventually contribute to the spring breaking (this is all just me hypothesizing, of course).

Is there an advantage to not having that screw in all the way (reducing the pressure on the spring) or should I leave it as is?

Noz

I'd back the tension spring out until I noticed problems such as; caps not firing or hammer blowing back and dropping caps in the hammer slot. You can always tighten it a bit if necessary.

Howdy

I would not worry about the spring breaking. One of my Remmies is almost 40 years old, and the screw that secures the spring has always been snugged all the way down.
That's bad business! How long do you think I'd stay in operation if it cost me money every time I pulled a job? If he'd pay me that much to stop robbing him, I'd stop robbing him.

Ya probably inherited every penny ya got!
