As I said earlier, my visit to WC's shop was a major highlight of my trip to California to shoot at Piru. I took along my Henley swivel knife, because I wanted a pro's opinion on how sharp the blade was. I don't have anyone locally I can turn to for something like that. He sat down and did a quick demo on a scrap of leather, which is pictured below. He also did a demo for the background tools I bought from him. (Top right) The other marks on the left were already there (Just a scrap piece lying around)
I asked if I could keep it, and he signed it, also at my request. The saddle bags were a mind blower to me. He used the backgrounders I bought on the flap with the picture. Let me tell you, the pictures do not do this bag justice. The quality of the stamping and carving are stunning. If I lived anywhere near Wayne, I would be spending every extra minute I had in his shop, trying to learn as much as I could. Thanks again Wayne, it was a real pleasure. JD

The bottom photo, left to right is WC, my friend Dan Suit, (Poke Along) and me.

The wood look is the easiest thing there is.
Carve your plank width, carve the breaks. Grain is just light squigle lines, use a fish eye seeder for the knot holes and a babydot snap setter for the nail heads.

Wow! That is some awesome work!!! Sure wish I could have been there.
You need to learn to like all the little everday things like a sip of good whiskey, a soft bed, a glass of buttermilk,  and a feisty old gentleman like myself

I gotta say that the detail in those bags is amazing. The scrolls coming out of the meander stamping, just looks awesome!

I have to tell you, I could have stared at those saddle bags for a long time.....oh wait, I DID stare at them for a long time ;D

There is so much going on there, and every detail is perfect. It would take some serious time to take it all in. And then there are are the many items in his shop I didn't take pictures of. This man has a shop full of examples of his work that are a feast for the eyes.

Since I don't go home except 2-3 hrs a night, you'd have to deal with my wife. Don't think you'd want to do that.
