Hello,

I have a pair of 7 inch barrelled Schofields ... drawing them out of a standard holster is like drawing a short sword.

I am thinking that a double buscadero rig where the Schofield's grips are right at hip-joint level would make pulling them alot more efficient.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a Schofield rig? I have seen all kinds of Colt, Colt clones and Remington rigs, but none for the Schofield.

Thanks!

Have you considered double belts? It puts your pistols in the right place and is more historically correct than a buscadero rig. Of course, you may not be concerned with that but it's just another option for you to consider. Notice where the holsters ride. It's about the same as a drop buscadero rig. It's wise to have tie-downs to keep the holster from riding up when you draw. If you're going to go B-Western, then the buscadero would be a very good option.

I also have sever pair of long barreled guns, including Schofields, which are made easily tolerable with a bit of muzzle forward cant.  This also helps those of us with arthyrightous in the wrists, elbows and shoulders.  My thought is that if one wears his guns slightly forward of the hips with about fifteen to twenty degrees muzzle forward cant it makes for a much more natural arm rotation draw than trying to scrunch everything upwards under the arm pit!  I actually like high ride Slim Jim holsters best and do not think I could use these without the above mentioned draw style.  Do let me say that what works for one may not work for others due to differences in body shape and size (arm length, waist length and height).

Hi,

Thanks for all the great tangent suggestions: I'm gonna have to think about it....

First, the prsent holsters are a pair made for me by Will Ghormley. Originally they were a double-butt-forward rig with the cant reduced to 20 drgrees. Since SASS does not like butt-forward rigs, the holsters were designed so that they could be reversed left-to-right, and right-to-left. They then become a double strong side rig with the holsters at a 20 degree barrel forward rig.

Sure enough, I was told that I could not have a double 'butt forward rig'. So since the next match they have been double strong side since.

But I have no doubt in my ex-military-mind that when I next ride with friends, the holsters will go back to crossdraw 'double-but-forward.

And, yes I do have an all black, bad guy' B Western outfit that I am really looking forward to wearing. All I need is a rig ....

With the all black outfit, a bunch of silver would look great on your rig. Whatever you decide to do, be sure to post pics for us to enjoy.

I have a Scully Jericho Shirt, black western belt with silver buckle, black jeans and black boots with black spur straps ... and stainless spurs ...

If I cannot find a custom rig I can afford, I was thinking about the Kirkpatrick Silver King shown below.

That Silver King rig was just on the SASS Classifieds within the last week and I think the price was a bargain but it went fast.  When you mention that you have a black belt, I assume you are talking for the jeans rather than a gun belt??  One last idea, though I do not think this is where you are aiming, the really low hang gunfighter holster style such as Eastwood wore in the Italian Westerns.  I think these have enough drop, especially with the matching notched belt, to meet the holster requirements.  The problem being that most makers would probably charge about close to as much for this, in an adorned Hollywood style, as the Busky costs!  If all else fails be sure to run an add specifying your needs in a used rig before buying new.  Sometimes fokes will see an opportunity to sell things that turned into closet queens.

Slowhand Bob,

Thanks for the thought about used gear... I had not thought about placing an ad on CAScity.com ...

In fct, if anyone has a used rig like this in around a 44 hip/42 waist and for Schofields, please give me a PM or email!

I am extremely short waisted; the bottom of my rib cage is but an inch and a half above my hip bones.

Still, a standard buscadero rig should put my grips just at the head of my hip joint, and just in the ball of my hands when the arm is at rest. I would not want to go any further down; I have watched members at matches whose guns waddled forward and backward with the holster as the walked..... very fast on the draw but very unstable for horseback or just walking ...

Possibly ... but if I am armed they will not like the reaction .... *S*

Seriously, though.

I just realized that if I can work one reenactment before the tax deadline I can write off all my guns and leather as a 'professional expense'... and for that, I will risk alot .... *L*
