For a wound in the head:  Bathe in cold cider vinegar, wrap in a bandage of squirrel brains and ginsing leaves.

Badly cut arm or leg:  Apply big wad of chaw tobacco.

To cure lockjaw:  Have a cup of cockroach tea.

To cure heartburn:  Eat fishworms.

To prevent being wounded:  Fasten the right eye of a wolf inside your right sleeve. (Wonder what a left eye would do.) :-\

For baldness:  Mix one quart clean tar, 1 quart whiskey, and 1 quart honey or molasses in a pewter dish, heat 15-20 minutes without boiling, skim off the tar and take three or four tablespoons a day.

To cure mumps:  Rub the swellings against a hog trough.  :P

Wow!

Show me the way to THAT Doctor!

I wonder what they dreamed up for the common cold?  Stew up oxen offal mixed with vinegar and brown sugar and lampblack, then eat all that twice a day, perhaps?!

I think that's one part of the 19th century realism I'll skip!

Cockroach Tea - Bring one quart of water to a rolling boil.  One at a time, drop in a dozen live cockroaches (cockroaches must be live or tea will be a mite weak). Boil until cockroaches have started to disintegrate, reduce heat and simmer until contents are consistency of maple syrup.  Strain through a flour sack and store in pint whiskey bottle.  Use one teaspoon of this concentrate per each cup of hot water for your cockroach tea.  Have someone help you pry your mouth open enough so you can suck up this tea through a straw.  Enjoy.

Ok, here are a few off the top of my head, will dig some more up later.

Stale urine in the ear for an ear ache, the 'monia helps.

A cob web over a bad cut to stop the bleeding, makes sense to me.

A moldy bread poutace on an infected wound, if there is a microbioligist on the board he can explain, if you don't understand.

A tea made out of the roots of the Purple Coneflower, look up the taxanomical name if ya don't understand.  Can you say 19th century herbal yuppie. ;D

Real blackberry brandy, wine or fresh juice for diarra, yes it does work.

I'll get some more out and yes most do work.
