Just wanted to know accuracy report of this bullet? While it does carry alot of lube the profile of the bullet seems to be a little top- heavy. Has anyone actually put this bullet on paper at 25-50 yrds? I had heard somebody say on another forum that they had problems with the bullet key-holeing. just want an un-biased rerport as to the true performance of this bullet.
Thanks Reelfoot

I shot about 200 rounds a couple of weeks ago. I was loading about 33gr FFF. I will qualify this with the statement that I am not the most accurate shooter out there.  ;)  Out of my 4 5/8" Vaqueros at 10 yds I was getting 3-4" groups shooting Duelist and 2" groups out of my 24" '73 at 50 yds. I didn't notice any tears in the paper that would indicate tumbling. I wasn't looking for this, but I believe I would have noticed if it were happening.

Reelfoot,

I have periodically run across reports of keyholing with big lube bullets, but have never been able to track down a true source for the reports. Twice I found web site with a shooter claiming that this was a problem for him. But when questioned about his guns/loads that this was supposedly happening with he "disappeared" from the sites. I should also add that these persons used different names on the web sites but from his sentence structure, syntax, and word usage it appeared to be the same person both times. Given the nature of his behaviour I suspect ulterior motives.

But...I am willing to entertain that this happens to some shooters, and if you would be so kind as to provide the source where you got this information I would greatly appreciate it.

In the meantime, I have been shooting the .45 PRS for a couple of years now, both on paper and in competition. The bullet, with my loads and in my guns, is as accurate as I am capable of shooting. I can achieve 1" groups at 50 yards with relative ease, from my Rossi, and I have never encountered any evidence of keyholing even on paper at 100 yards.

Cuts, I think that it was some posts on the goex forum in late 2004 ( I think). I missed out on mold order in january, but was considering buying some of these bullets, so i appreciate your input.

I been using the 250 gr. .45 big lubes since march.  I shoot paper plates for practice at 25 and 50 yards with my 73 and 10 yards with my Rugers.  I have shot over 800 rounds at the plates and never had one keyhole.  I never tried to see how small of group they'd give.  What I like about the dang things is not having to clean my rifle between stages.  I shot all 12 stages at the EoT and never cleaned my pistols til I got home.  I did run a couple of patches through my 73 and the end of day but never had to use a brush.  I just shot a 6 stage match and waited til I got home to clean, 4 or 5 patches and I was done.

Reelfoot, I'm here to tell you ... that person is full of 'donkey water'

I have been shooting the 200 and 250 DD/PRS boolits since July 2004 ... Exclusively!

I shoot 2-3 matches per month, 12 months of the year and from all of my main match revolvers and rifles ... in both Black and smokeless ... I have never had a keyholer in the range of 12 - 100 yards.

And for any nay sayers that may come down the road ... I HAVE NOT HAD ONE KEYHOLER with the 400 and 500 grain Big Lube's from 100 to 200 yards.  In fact, when they hit the paper, it is a round hole with enough lube plastered on the paper to make it look like the eclipse of the Moon!

I would love to get all my loads for the many calibers I shoot on paper. I just never get the chance. I can't use the indoor range with BP and the only other place is the cowboy range. I could however make up some kind of frame and shoot some at paper after the match I suppose. Maybe I will work on that.
Meanwhile I can report that the accuracy at CAS ranges is as much as I could ask for. Out of 5 1/2" barrels they hit where aimed. I can see that on fresh painted targets. I don't use wrist popping loads either. I shoot either 30 grs a fibre wad or a 25 grs topped with cream of wheat. Goex Cowboy.
My stuff certainly meets up with any kind of smoke/flame standard for sure.  :)
