Everywhere I've looked around me is now out of every kind of standard primer, only magnums left. The gummint contract that doubled the order for ammo is two years old now, and just since November have things dried up with no resupply showing up at least not commerical ammo. All the explainantions still don't explain why Wolf primers are also unavailable, even their ammo is currently showing up again.

Makes one wonder where the other side is getting their ammo?  Bet it's Russky or Chinee.  Business is always good for the arms dealers around the world.

Dusty, it's just outside of Owesnboro, KY a little place called West Louisville. About 45 minutes from the shooting range at West Side. Great guns store, largest in KY and I think fourth or fifth in the USA. Tj

I had 2 thousand each large & small pistol primers from Cabela's. They canceled my order, yet they are still taking orders fro primers.

How can you count on a company with that kind of a business practice?

Dodge Boy and I picked up a 1000 small and large primers each. This was at Ace's Guns up at Hawesville, KY. I had been on a waiting list and he got enough he let Dodge Boy have some too. He was about out when we left. They were CCI and the large pistol were magnum. He didn't know when he would be able to restock. Be glad when this shortage turns around. Tj

Primary cause for the shortage of primers available for reloaders is increased demand for ammunition (of course we know the "salesman of the year"). This demand shifted primers to loaded ammunition rather than availability for reloaders....Why?? Profit, of course. Adding value to the primer (loading a cartridge) = profit on each component, plus a bonus via higher value $$ due to demand (see "salesman of the year").  Joe Public (not a plumber) isn't helping by emptying the shelves as fast as the trucks can be unloaded..but eventually I figure most will have their stash filled or be low on cash.

Situation must be easing some. I've seen primers at a couple local shops. Large or small pistol (Remingtons)  ~ $35 / 1000.
Glad those in need are getting enough to keep shooting for the summer. I haven't seen primers at the big outlets yet.
