Cap Coyote's son does wonderful laser checkering ... he did my Model 87, and said that if I would just send him the gunstock and forearm, he would do my Winchester. By shipping just those two things to him, I could avoid the FFL charge and just send it to him (parts do not need to be sent through FFLs).

He has a few examples of his work on his website:

My moniker is my great grandfather's name. He served with the 2nd Florida Mounted Regiment in the Civil War. Afterward, he came home, packed his wife into a wagon, and was one of the first NorteAmericanos on the Frio River southwest of San Antonio ..... Kinda where present day Dilley is ...

Hi,

I was running out of the house when I wrote the last post ....

So here is an update on Cap Coyote's Laser Graphics that he did on my Model 87...

The work is actually done by Cap's son Drifter, and he can do as simple or as intricate as you might want.

There are more examples on his website ....

As an aside, he told me that if I had a gun that I wanted checkering on, just to send the stock and forearm as gun parts and save the costs of the FFL. I would imagine that would be the same sending to any person who does checkering.

Coyote Cap, I'm going to try them myself, for my pistol grips. Their gallery shows they do some really nice artwork. Well see.  ;)

His son Drifter does all the laser checkering.

He convinced me to get what he calls the 'windowpane' style checkering. It is acutally checkering within a 'windowpane' pattern of very much larger checkering. I can attest that when it is over 100 degrees at a match and the hands are sweaty, there is still good grip with it.

The only problem is that it looks so nice it is hard to talk myself into taking it to the range for fear I might screw up the pattern ...

Yes, Drifter did mention he had a special competition shooting checkering. I told him to got with that. The patterns are so perfect looking, your right. You almost feel like it's made for display, rather than for actual use.

Please tell Drifter hello when you talk to him next ... no, I am not a close friend, just a very satisfied client.

Also, please let him know that I sent him a pic of the Model 87 per our conversation...
