Just got a call from Cathy at Jamison.  The 45-60 brass are available.

They are selling for 1.28 each and no discount for quantity.

I got a call yesterday also.  I placed an order and Kathy said it should ship this week.

Picked up my brass today at UPS, would have had it Firday if not for an addressing mix up.  It looks good.  I hope to load some tomorrow and try it Wednesday.

My 45/60 Jamison brass came today. I ordered 200 rds. It chambers nice in my Chaparral. i had to thin the heads of some rem and winchester brass, to get the lever to close, without tons of pressure.

Now I am going to try and Find a 22 in bbl Chaparral  in 45/60, for hunting this fall. I don't want to  cut my 26 incher down.

Just got my 45-60's today. Checked the dimentions and they are for the most part to original specs.
They chamber in my Taylor soooo nice, its like they were made for it, OK they were.

I was using 45-70"s cut down, the action closed a little hard but they worked. Now the action closes effortlessly.

I'm glad Jamison decided to make um.

I will order my 45-60 brass soon

Hey RD - the 45-60 NWMP are still available from Distributors and mine looks and feels real good.

I had my gunsmith go over it when it first came in due to all the various probs people have had with them.

Mine appears to be a definite keeper.

Hoping to shooting it within the month.

Started to do some reloading with the new brass from Jamison. The problem is my new brass will not fit in the shell holder that came with the set of Lee dies that i got for reloading my 45-60.  Works great for the cut down 45-70's.

Also won't work with my Lee Auto-prime.

What brand of shell holder will work for the original 45-60's ?

The shell holder that came with my Lee 45-60 dies is marked "8" and the Jamison brass fits fine.

Loaded up 10 rds each of 5744 starting at 22 gr up to 25 grs and all worked fine.  Using lazercast 300gr, rem lr primers and overal length of 2.27.  The accuracy was good for iron sights and old eyes.  I need to get a peep sight for it.

Don't know whats going on, my shell holder for my Lee dies is marked #8 but the brass will not fit.
I will have to get ahold of Lee and see if they can send me another shell holder.

Howdy boys
I  talked to Lee today . I also sent them a sample of jamison brass , and also Ten X  ( bertram )
they will check out the brass . I figure then they will change the shell holders . I have 2 # 8 shell holders
one will work with 45-60 and the other won't . Figure that one out .

Rebel Dave

My 45/70 RP, and WW, brass head diameter, is all micing out at .601-.602 in dia.  My new Jamison 45/60  brass head diameter is micing out  at .613-.6145  in dia. The Jamison brass will not fit my Lee, or RCBS shell holders, that are for the 45/70 brass.
I don't have the specs for 45/60 brass but may-be it is diffferent than 45/70. Might have to find some other brass with the head diameter same as, or close to 45/60, and get those shell holders, or, get some shell holders made for 45/60. Could be that Jamison is using some different specs, to make the brass, or they made a mistake. Might have to have a holder of some kind made to turn down the Jamison Brass head diameter.
Other than that it was a long wait, and still can't load ammo for the 45/60 without modifiing 45/70 brass..... Bummmer.
Any one else find this out.

Well it should have been expected.  The rim spec for 45-60 IS larger diameter than for the 45-70.  If made to the correct specs, the 45-70 holder shouldn't work.  Reminds me of the old cartoon with a distraught fellow depicted and the caption says " oh no, you did it just the way I told you to"    ;D  I had the same problem with 45-75 dies from RCBS, they sent a silly 45-70 holder with that one too.  After some discussion, I wound up with a 50-90 shell holder which is perfect.  So for those waiting for the 45-75 brass, get your shell holder ducks in a row and get the right on in advance.  ;)

The original rim dia. is listed .620 to .629. for the 45-60. Checked my Jamison brass and they are .615. So they are a tad smaller than originals.
Also checked my 45-70's  they seem to be around .600.  I have an original 45-60 that i checked and it comes out at .618
E-mailed Lee and so far have not gotten back to me.
I have a copy of the book  The Winchester Model 1876 Centennial Rifle, it lists the 40-60, 45-60 and the 45-75 with the same rim dia. .620 to .629 .

Hell-Er High Water

Here is something else to check.

Although Lyman lists the same shell holder for the 40-60, 45-60 & 45-70 (No. 17), they list a different one for the 45-75 (No. 36).

You might check with them and see if this is the one that you should be using with the Jamison 45-60 brass.

I bought Lee dies in 45-70 and then a set in 45-60.  When I went to reload some Ten-x brass the shell holder (both #8) wouldn't fit the 45-60 brass (it was the #8 from the 45-70 set of dies).  I ended up ordering a 36x shell holder from Lyman which worked.  later i tried the #8 that came with the 45-60 set and it worked  :D.  I figure that Lee modifies the #8 for 45-60 sets (also works with the 45-70).  I'd call Lee they have been good to work with.  If all else fails get the Lyman 36.  Good luck.  I'm off to the range to finally try some BP loads in my '76--it has shot well with TrailBoss but I'd like to try the Holy Black.

All the best,
Willy

Well it's been 5 days since I e-mailed LEE. Have not heard anything from them.  This is getting frustrating! Wanted to do some reloading and get out to the shooting range and try the new brass.
Tried to call LEE today,it was busy for the most part and when i finaly got a ring nobody anserwed.
Will try again tomorrow, if no luck will send for a #36 shell holder from Lyman and try that.
