Drainage holes

Hey pards - were drainage holes cut in toe plugs way back when, or is it a modern thing? Skeet.

                             Modern, all the old toe plugs I've seen were solid, when I make mine I put a hole it for drainage.

Most of the original civilian holsters I've looked at do not have them.  However, the U.S. Army holsters with plug ends do! 

IMHO, if you are worried about "authenticity" put the drain hole on the back side of the holster, near the toe, or do as I do with stitched 'round holsters: I insert the point of an awl between the first stitch and the leather at the bottom of the holster, so it leaves a round hole the size of the awl shaft.  Just leave room between the first stitch hole and the leather, and be careful not to tear the thread.
