Hello,

I have an  Baikal IZH 43 SXS that I really enjoy shooting. Although the weapon is an upland game model with  26" barrels, I find it extremely accurate, and the gun feels like it was made for me.

The bad: 1.) when the barrel is warm, it tends to hold onto spent cartridges, and they must be manually pulled out. 2.) the gun opens stiffly, and wants to return to a half closed position,3.) Although a single trigger model, the trigger pull is much less for the left barrel than the right.

From reading Maurader's files on the Baikal, I understand that taking some lapping compound to the chambers and the mainspring guide, and replacing the mainspring with a shortened M1911 will solve all the problems except the disparate trigger pull effort.
And I have no clue what needs to be done to fix that (it is something I can live with though; I just get a bit of 'surprise' when the second barrel fires with less trigger pressure)..

I have not been able to find a recommendation for a gunsmith who knows Baikals ....

Has anyone in this forum had a good experience sending their Baikal to a gunsmith?

If so, who do you recommend, and have you a website/email address/phone number or mailing address?

If you want to send me a private email about it, my email addy is on my profile.

I look forward to any help anyone might have to offer ....

Nate Kiowa Jones AKA: Steve Young, Port Arthur Texas.  Probably knows more about the Baikal than anyone else on the planet except the manufacture.  www.stevesgunz.com or 409-984-5473.  Steve is usually available from 11:00 AM till about 8:00 PM Texas time.  Highly recommended.
