Question for Slowhand Bob (Or whoever might know)

Hello Bob. I'm wondering if you might recall where on this Forum you first wrote about the holsters you made from the modified Black Canyon pattern of Will G.

I remember reading about them, but I can't find it now, even doing a search of your posts. I would like to read again what you had to say about making them.

If anyone else knows, feel free to chime in. I appreciate the help, JD

JD, if you can be a little more specific I'll try and give you an idea of what I do.  An example is the 1911 WB holster I just posted a couple of days ago.  I first found pictures of several western styles others had done and that I liked.  I picked from these the features and look that I most wanted in my holster (not surprisingly this turned out to be very similar to what we all saw from WILD ROSE recently).  I then went back into my pattern collection and selected those patterns which had features most closely resembling what I wanted.  I actually ended up with two old Tandy/Leather Factory patterns and just merged the features to get what you saw.  I have many old patterns and many I done myself and will tell you that when I start a project and completely pattern a new gun into a totally new (for me) design, this is by far the most time consuming part of making a holster.  Once I get anywhere close to something I like I will start making a back up to go back to when everything suddenly turns to uhhh a nightmare and that is pattern making for me.  I do want to post some of my knives for you just as soon as I can get to it but the wife is pushing me to get things ready for an upcoming trip and I am the worlds greatest procrastinator.

It's the one you just posted a picture of on the "Patterns" thread. (Page 1, reply # 4, Brown with black edges). I seem to remember reading about it, where you talked about the smalll piece of leather on the flap used to keep the belt in place. You posted several pictures of the rig, which I copied and saved, because I thought it was a good looking rig, and was (and still am) looking for the right holster design for me.

I believe it is the same one you used for the pattern you posted.

JD, I will be going to Columbia tomorrow but give me a few days and I will try and photo a small project that might help you better understand this belt tab.  This is definitely not an idea that is original to me, I have seen it done a couple of ways by others and have tried them both.  What is neat about this particular holster is how the hardware is hidden inside the body of the holster and the countersinking of the Chicago screw heads within the lining leather.  These techniques are shown in Bianchis holster making video set.  Its a great video series with some pretty neat tricks.

Thanks, Kuncklehead, I appreciate the offer. I just ordered the DVD from Gunfighter DVD & Video Emporium about 2 hours ago. From what I've read before, and by Bob this time, there are some methods & "Tricks", if you will that make it worth owning. I sure have gotten a lot out of Chuck B's video, well worth the $$.
