I have been interested in getting my Henry rifle converted to shoot .44 Russians.  I was saddened to find out that Bill English is not longer doing the conversion and is closing his shop in September.  Does any of you know of any other gunsmith doing this conversion?

"....closing his shop in September"  :o   Please say that isn't so !  :(

Not sure if he will do it...but Ottawa Creek Bill can do it....I think he is doing Doc's
Might be an FFL thing, shipping though.

I would think any competent gunsmith could do it.  I would suggest you contact Vaughn Trueman of The Bullet Hole.  He does a lot of work on Henrys, 66s, and 73s.  He does barrel relining so I would think he could do a sleeve.  Contact hm at 319-233-0204 or e-mail him at thebullethole@mchsi.com

Happy Trails is shuttering his shop?  That is sad news.  :'(  But I guess even gunsmiths need to pack it in at some point.  That is who sleeved my .44-40 Henry to .44 Spl.  Worked great.  With the new modified carrier I shoot .44 Russian.

It's true  :( I spoke to Bill this afternoon.....he said "he'll keep the retail part open"...but the Smithing is done.
He said "Arthritis has forced him to step back"  :(

He just finished several jobs for me....I'll miss him

I wish him well, but it is a loss for the rest of us.  Bill did all kinds of work that other "smiths" simply wouldn't try.
