USFA BLUES

I'm so blue I could write a C&W song. I ordered my USFA premium in Feb. from Long Hunter Supply. I keep coming to this site and reading and every time I do I become more blue. The days of buying a gun when you decide to buy are long gone. I went through a 3 month wait for my 1887 from Coyote Cap and I've been happy since I got it. I waited 5 months for my 92 from Nate Kiwoa Jones and now this. I think I will refrain from buying any more special guns. I'm just not cut out for this type of mental stress. I thought that working as a narcotics agent in the 70's was stressful or being in the 4th inf in the 60's or being in this economy was a lot of stress. But nothing comes close as that stress that you feel when waiting for a new gun for months on end. I quit drinking about 11 years ago due to medical problems so that answer is out. I just finished shooting for 12 straight weeks in CAS. No Help!! We need a place for expectant gun buyers to wait and be consoled by others.

I do not mean to sound cold about this, but that's part of the price you pay for "special" guns, especially with the big name gunsmiths. Could their turn-around-times be better?  Yes they could, but you are going to them for their services and they no doubtly have countless other cowboys in front of you, so you end up at their mercies.
With the USFA, you have to account that it does take some time to produce it at the factory, and then some more time for Long Hunter to do his magic. End result, you may have to wait for awhile, but you will be happy when you have it in hand.

Having purchased a brace of SAs from Jim, I tell you that he is an honest man, has full integrity, turns out a fabulous pistol, and that you are lucky he took you on as a client.  You will be so happy with the gunz when you get them that you will willingly wait for the second set (which you inevitably will order).

The good things in life always take time.

If you really want some fun, order an AR upper from LMT or RRA.

Hey Rio, I meant this little post to be a fun type thing. I was not writing it to be serious, didn't think it would be taken that way. When my two sons were born in the 60's the waiting room for the fathers was a funny place to be. It was filled with cigarette smoke and guys pacing back and forth and trying to tell jokes to take the edge off. Thats why I put it in my post. There are far to many bad things going on in this world, our young men in arms in two countrys and some not coming home for any one to be serious about being upset about material things.  ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D :o :o :o

Howdy, Fairshake!

My "name" is Ridgway and I know exactly what you are going through right now. Back in January of this year I contacted Jim Finch about a premium USFA SAA that I wanted, and still want to stand out from the crowd. This gun totes a 7 1/2 inch barrel, blue colorcase hardened frame and a nickel plated backstrap and triggerguard. A week ago this May, I called Jim Finch to see about the progress of this gun. He informed me that it was currently being case hardened over at Turnbull Restorations. He told me a few other important details but I soon came to grips with the fact that a gun like a USFA needs the most uncompromising time and effort if I want it to be exactly like I envisioned it.
A work in progress.

Ooops! My bad!  ;)  (Yeah, I know, I hate that term, too!) ;D

I can totally relate to "waiting" for something. My wife sez I'm the most impatient man she knows, when it comes to that kinda stuff. Then it it does finally come, it's like a short-lived Christmas!
But seriously, when your new premium USFA does come in, you are gonna be so happy!  We expect to hear a report on it when you get it!

Guys,,ya makin' me smile. Tisk, tisk on you all...you wanna WAIT ? ,,,then my fellow shooters,,get into CUSTOM FLINTLOCKS !,,,,

..the gestation period of a baby rock is faster.

3 years if the builder likes you and expedites it. 5 years aint out of the ordinary,,and 7 for a kick butt rifle is standard.

I am to old to go that route again. That IS a long time when you are my age. But guys, a year ? Thats one term of yard mowing, one hunting season, one snow removal term and PRESTO ! ,,,,A year in custom gun stuff is like instant coffee !

The neat part,,,the DREAM,,,the wait IS kinda the neatest part ! When you have a gun being built, there is hope in the air !

Fairshake

Marshal Deadwood, I've been looking at some of the sites for the custom builders of flintlocks. I've always wanted one, but at age 62 I think I waited too long. The flintlock is a very mistic type of gun. To me they are like looking at a custom made car, motorcycle, or anything else that is bulit by hand and love. I will have to stick with my waiting of factory made guns. Maybe we could change the wording to the country song that is out now about waiting on a woman to waiting on a gun! Sounds about right to me. Later David

Yeah!  I agree!  If you want a custom muzzle-loader, then go the Spring or Fall shoot of the NMLRA at Friendship, Indiana....you can always find a few there for sale....but bring DEEP pockets!  (I'm headed that way in a little over a week!)

The CLA show in Lexington, Ky,,,umm,,,about August I 'think'..if you cant find a flinter there,,there aint one to be had on the face of the earth.

OR,,google the CLA (contempary longrifle association) and browse their site. The Friendship boys and gals run this place kinda,,,same bunch,,,and you can find it if it exisit there,,or contact a builder for a custome order.
