I'm looking for the best way to attach a hammer thong to a holster I'm making. I found one thread with info but was wondering if there was some new info on this? I saw where two holes are punched behind the holster body and the latigo is pulled up through and left hanging out the bottom, are there other ways?
Thanks

This is "the best way." It also allows for length adjustment which you will need to do as the "thong" will stretch over time. The only other way that comes to mind would be to rivet or sew it on, but you will regret it, for the reason I stated earlier.

Cazio, The method you mentioned is the most common but there are many variations one could try.  It can be as simple as just the thong or one could attach a leather tab to the thong.  Some designs use a shaped leather strap which is hole punched on one end to go over the hammer.  Most of the time these do wind through two holes placed below the holsters throat at the hammer side but I have mounted them in several other places as well.  At times I have punched the holes in the skirt and run the thongs there, I have even just threaded them under a tight fitting holster loop before.  I have even gone to the trouble of attaching a looped channel to the belt loop of Slim Jims for threading a safety thong.  In the end, my favorite, just looks right, is still just a thong with a small leather tab threading through the punched holes below the hammer.  The main thing to remember with this is to install it so that the thong lays in the recess between the top strap and the cylinder, which is not a pressure/wear point.

Casio, Slowhand has pretty much covered the ins and outs of the hammer thong, I will add this, putting a thong in a lined holster is pretty easy, by punching two holes about an inch apart, but just on the outside layer of leather and maybe an inch from the top of the bucket, right under the hammer, but you can put it in the back also, your choice, and then before you cement the two pieces together, draw a circle around the two holes, then when you put your cement on the flesh side of these two pieces, DON'T GET ANY CEMENT ON THE INSIDE OF THE CIRCLES, you want this area to be free of cement. When your holster is done, you can fish a piece of rawhide or leather that you have cut for this through one hole and out the other, I make a loop and run both ends through and then tie it off where it will be a safe distance, and still be able to get the thong off when you want. ( that's when I use Rawhide, if you use a one piece thong of leather, just tie it off where you want it.
If you're doing an unlined holster, like the older period correct holsters, you usually don't need a thong, because the way the holster is cut will keep your gun held snug and secure. But if you think you still would need or like one, you can sew a 1"x1-1/2" piece of leather in the back of the holster, just below where the cylinder will rest, ( where the barrel starts ) put it in at an angle so after you have pulled your thong through this patch, you can have the ends of the thong hanging out the back of the holster,( between holster and flap/skirt or belt if there is no skirt, like a slim Jim ) this is where the angle of the patch needs to be right, so that when you want to pull it tight it will pull smoothly through the patch, you can sew the patch on both ends, and then once in the center if you want, you want to ba able to tie it off so that not will not pull through the patch, WHEN YOU HAVE IT ALL IN , THEN ADJUST IT AND TIE IT OFF, so you can't pull it out. ??? :-\

                                                    Hope this helps  :D
