Uberti Lightning extractor failure

I purchased a replica lightning pump 45LC last fall, put <200 rounds through it flawlessly before the hammer spring broke.  Couple of months later it came back from the factory and now I have an extractor that prematurly releases the spent cartridge once in every 5 or 6 rounds causing a jam.  Not a winner when against the clock.  I think installing a stronger extractor spring or a set screw over the spring to allow adjustment may solve the problem.  HobbyGunsmith has done this with success but I haven't been successful in getting a reply with some info on the proceedure from them.  Has anyone had this happen and been successful with a fix?  I really don't want to send it back in again.  Other option is swapping it for an 1873 replica but I loved the feel of the pump when it was working.

Thanks.

Billy, I wondered what happened to it at the match last month. I would think a good stiff spring and a sharp extractor might make the difference, but am not postitive on that.
See you next month.

Save that for plinking and get a 73 for competition. Unless you like to torture yourself  ::)
Smoke em if ya got em.

It takes some folks longer that others to learn a lesson.  I do have a '73 in 38-40 that works good but I want to get my hands around this pump a few more times before I abandon the consarnd thing.  I did hit upon the cause of the failure and was able to get it working reasonably well.  I have a shoot next Sunday... Lord willin' and the creek don't rise.  I'll have my trusty rusty '73 just in case.  Thanks.  BC

...that's what I said. Now I save my pump for turtle plinking at the pond...

My pump has been my main match rifle for 3 years now. No problems, so not all of them are bad.

So, what was the cause of the failure?
