Are they still banned?  Just wondering.  I am getting ready for a new set up in .45.  I was thinking,... ::), I might want it to be NCOWS legal too.  If so, what about the Rodeo II?
Thanks!

Outrider, the Rodeos are not ban, it's the finish on them. Is the Rodeo 2 the flat nickle? If so it is not correct either. With the blue Rodeos, you can buff it up or you can make it look like a USFA Gunslinger. Give Mad Dog Red a call and he can tell you how to make it look like a Gunsllinger. He did one for me. You just can't beat the USFA'S. I own five.
I'll send you a PM with Red's number on it.  TJ

Outrider:

TJ's tellin' you correctly. There is no prohibition on USFA Rodeos -- per se.

NCOWS' prohibition is on matte finishes -- whether blue or nickel, on any firearm. As they are visibly incorrect for our period.

A Rodeo with a polished finish (blue or nickel) or no finish at all would be NCOWS legal no problem.

I still cant understand why USFA is making the Rodeo 11   with a matt finish unless it costs alot more to simply polish up the stainless.   I probably would have bought one if the finish was polished.

A high-polish finish - or a polished finish of any variety takes time and talent to do well, and the hand work and attention to detail  is the reason for the higher associated costs.

Matte finish takes a bead-blaster...

There's also a school of thought that the 'antiqued' finishes as supplied by the factories is merely a finish that went wrong in the process, and rather than strip it and re-polish - some bright mind thought that the weapons would sell to those who want them to look a century old at a time when they'd likely be a couple of years old.

Go figure - paying a 'new gun' price for a weapon that looks used...

Matte finishes didn't find favor until much, much later, when modern folks became enamored of the 'military look'.

Had they been applied during the era - buyers would've viewed them as evidence of poor workmanship and a manufacturers effort to hide flaws.

Even the low-priced 'Suicide Specials' had a bright nickel finish.

Ok that is another thing I could never understand.  Why would anyone involved in CAS want to purchase a modern made, reproduction  that looks like it is 100 years old?   This makes no sense to me unless the person wants to pretend they are time travellers in addition to being someone in the late 1800s.   ;D

Time Travellers to where...our future?  If you were to travel back to the 1800's, the firearms would need to look new - not already 100yrs old.

Sod Buster & All......

That would be correct for a nickle finish. A nickle finish lasted much longer then the old time bluing (I think it's called charcoal bluing today) that wasn't known for it's durability. It was usually gone in five to ten years.

As far as making a new gun look 100-150 years old, I think that comes from some CAS shooters being ex Star Wars Fans and wanting to be transported back to the old west with their original antique firearms....I don't quite understand the logic either.

Fellows, guest I am an oddball. I like them and own two. The USFA that looks old or very used is called a Gunslinger. The action out of the box is much improved over the Rodeos. Yes I know a wolf spring kit will put your Rodeos close to the Gunslinger. I like the Gunslinger. Guess that is why more than one kind of USFA are out there. TJ  ???  :)

The Rodeo is legal if you buff it .They are GREAT guns I have shot these for several years . In my opinion the USFA's are the best SAA on the Market .    I LOVE my NCOWS pistol ,  this is my favorite USFA .

lethal larry

Sure Rowdy....Rub it in! ;) I contacted USFA's and told them I was interested in getting a pair of "NCOWS" Revolvers and I was told they don't offer them any more. >:( . I guess I'll see what gun vendors are there at Evansville at the Nationals that offer guns that are NCOWS legal. Only 16 days till then!

Lethal Larry, think some of the guys and gals are planning a trip to Whittaker's Guns on Wednesday afternoon. Might want to take that trip, it's a very large gun store. TJ

Lethal Larry, the reason USFA does not have the deal on the NCOWS revolver, (it was a heck of a deal too) only 6 people got those guns. Why would any company offer a deal to a NATIONAL GROUP that members only ordered 6 guns. Wouldn't sell mine for two new USFA. But let me tell you, you can still get one. Go on their web site, they will build you a revolver, any caliber, finish, barrel length, grips, and serial number for a price. You can select the gun and options and it will total the price. I have thought about doing it and get a 44/40 this time(the caliber I like best). I would just change the serial number from NC2312 to 2312NC or TJ2312. see what I mean. TJ  ;)

Larry:

I have 4 USFA in .45.  I will bring extra pair on Sunday if you want to try them.  They dont get sticky with BP like a Ruger does.
Let me know.
