I was wondering if anyone could tell me if Ruger would be willing/able to retrofit a 44/40 cylinder to my 44 mag Bisley?  I could contact them, but looking for pointers ahead of time, ie. cost, etc.  I had been unaware until recently that Ruger did anything with the 44/40, hadn't really been paying attention until I picked up an Uberti '73 Winchester in that caliber.  I didn't want a 45, cause that just aint right...  Anyway, suddenly the thought of a 44/40 handgun to match becomes a deep desire.  Anyway, thanks for the input.

Basically, the answer is NO!  :(  Unless things have changed drastically, recently, Ruger will NOT fit interchangeable cylinders to guns after-market.  I'd go ahead and check it out with them, but I doubt they will do it...   Sorry to be a wet blanket, but...

I was fortunate to find two "loose" cylinders, one a .44 Magnum and one a .44-40, at a gun show and with a gunsmith respectively, and had them fitted to a .44-40 and a .44 Maggie OM Vaquero, so I had a pair of convertables.  But I had tried to get Ruger to do something, and they refused.

Maybe they will change their minds, but given they are no longer producing the .44-40's or the OM Vaqueros, I doubt it.
Ride to the sound of the guns, but watch out for bushwhackers! Godspeed to all in harm's way in the defense of Freedom! God Bless America!

The only thing you can do is find someone who already has a Ruger that letters as having shipped with the
wanted cylinder. If you send it back without the cylinder they'll replace it.

That's kinda shifty but I suppose it would work.  Got a shop here that has a pair of 44-40's OMV fer 900 dollars.

I wouldn't say it was "shifty". They'd definitely charge you a fair market rate for the cylinder.
You'd also be guaranteed to get a factory spec part. More like "creative thinking".  ;D

Thanks!  As my grandmother was fond of saying, "If wishes were horses all beggars would ride."  Ah well, such is life.
