What is the best, and most economical, route to go for a more 'Colt' looking hammer change to the NV ? They are nice looking revolvers, but the long hammer spur just does not do it for me.

Thanks

Take a look at the CDFA (Cowboy Fast Draw Assoc) New Vaquero. It has the shorter spur. But I gotta tell ya, I like the longer spur on my three RNVs, they are great for CAS and since I have been practicing for CFD, I think I would prefer them.

I too am interested in this. I'd like to get a 7 1/2 Vaquero, but that long hammer spur just puts me off(that and the fact that they dont come in .44-40).

I'm with Rawhide on this , I shot in fast draw comp. for years, and I think the hammers on the New Model Vaquero's are great, of course that's just my opinion, but no matter how I go for my gun, the hammer is right there, I'm not sure if my thumb fines the hammer easier,or the hammer fines my thumb easier, but it works like a well timed clock.

Take a look at the chart I made up. Not that much difference.

Thanks Rawhide. I for some reason,,see the hammer being less of an issue on the short Ruger than on the 7 1/2 inch. A 4 5/8 stainless for some reason is calling out to me !

I've had Blackhawks, Super Blackhawks, Single Sixs, and a couple Mark 2's...and I already can testify to the durablity of a Ruger. Wish I could live long enough to buy a new one today and wear it totally out. Not even sure it can be done. Not totally wear one out,,umm,,THAT would be a testiment to some serious shooting !

My first matched pair of RNVs are SS .45 with 4 5/8" barrels. Later I bought a SS .45 with a 7 1/2" barrel for my "saddle" gun. It's great!

I shoot gunfighter, have small hands, and the RNV hammers work beautifully for me.

You can exchange the hammer on your NMV with any NMB, Vaquero,or SBH. Sometimes you have to remove a little stock from the hammer because it might hit on your transfer bar but not much, usally at the most .040". When I put a SBH hammer in my 50 th Anniversay 357 it dropped right in no work. I have purchased 3 SBH hammers from Gun Parts.
