Slowhand Bob

This ends my little quick and dirty project and I have picked up on an item or two that might be worth remembering and at the same time made some mistakes that need remembering.  I have already dyed the pair a dark tan and added neatfoot oil, boy did it help their looks, NOT!  Though these are not pretty by any stretch of ones imagination, they are very serviceable and I promise, if the shooter is fast, the holsters will not slow him down!!

Picture one is of the holster right after glue application.  Since we are applying glue to the grain side it is necessary to rough the contact surface a bit.  I keep a battery powered Dremel with a small wire brush chucked in for this and it is quick and neat.  One would be surprised how handy that Dremel can be at the bench for many jobs.  After the small glued edge has cured I then even that edge with a sander.  My all around favorite sander is the oscillating drum style and followed by that same little Dremel with a mini-drum for tight concaves.

Last but not least is sewn the semi finished holster.  This pattern is definitely roomy enough to figure a leather combination that would render an attractive lined holster, grain out and in.  Just by laying the holster pouch pattern on the belt loop pattern would allow merging the lines to accomplish a one piece competition holster.  Though this holster does end up being wet formed, the lined ones that show up in my earlier post were not.

Thanks for the pics. You have a picture of them with the dye? Nice tip on the dremel. I usually rough the leather with the tip of a dull knife but that's only because my dremel isn't out ready to use.
