I've done a search on the forum, and read Al's book on holsters, regarding lined holsters. I'm still not sure of the "proper" way to do this.

Does the lining have to be sewn on? From what I've read in Al's book it's not clear that it does (at least how I read it)

If the lining is sewn on the holster, how do you deal with two stitching lines? You're going to need one to sew the holster together. I don't believe I've seen this addressed before.

Any help is appreciated, JD

I sew the lining to the holster anywhere the holster wouldn't normally be sewn (to the skirt, around the top and at the toe if it's an open toe). When you assemble the holster, the mainseam secures the lining between the sides of the holster.

Well, that makes perfect sense. Sometimes I wonder where the "figure things out" part of my brain goes from time to time.

use the stitching groover all around the edges of the holster.
use the same setting as you would on the main seam of the holster.

now just stitch the holster up untill you get to the main seam. i star at the top of the main seam and stitch around the mouth up the skirt to the toe of the holster. glue the main seam together, then pick up from where i left off at the toe area. continue stitching up the main seam to the top area that you started at then back stitch 2 or 3 holes to secure stitching. and your finished.

now looking at stitching you cant tell where you started and stopped.

Thanks Knucklehead, that makes perfect sense. I don't know why I didn't think of that. Brain fart I guess. Happens a lot.

I know you line your holsters quite often. Do you glue them flat, or do you glue on a curve? Just curious. Thanks

glue on the curve.

fold the leather up till it looks a holster.
glue the lining in as you hold the main pocket bent like a holster. you dont need to keep it formed so tight that you have trouble working with it.

also if the holster is to have the belt loop folded over like a skirt then you want to line that area on while its folded also.

this way helps prevent the leather from buckling when you stitch it together.

remember to cut the lining over size a bit. you can always trim it down after its glued up.
you cant add leather if you cut it too small so its better to cut it oversize a little.
