Today is the 138th Birthday of the State of Nebraska, the first state added after the end of the War Between the States.  The Union Pacific railroad was slowly creeping across the plains at the time.  Folks were moving in fast because of the free land offered by the Homestead Act.  And after previous failed attemps my home state added the 38th star to the flag.

Almost all came in right after the Homestead Act and settled in Johnson County around Tecumseh, Crab Orchard, Graf Elk Creek and Bobstown.   My Dad's mother is they only one not from the area.

We need to do some checkin' but we think Lone Gunman and I are related on both sides of the family. ;D  All jokes aside, that is very common in any part of the country where the original family's who settled stayed around.

I am desended from both a very prominate State Senator and one of the only murderers in Johnson County.  Both in the 1870's.  My dad still owns 1/3 of the original homestead of my Grandfather's Great Great Uncle and I can show you where  Grandpa's Grandpa homesteaded, but it is not in the family any more.

My dad's family came to WI from IN in 1855. They settled about 15 miles north of here. My father-in-law's family settled about a mile from here in 1854. The land I live on was patented in 1852 by my wife's distant ancestor.

Family came in through the Carolna's in the mid 1600's. Went to VA, then branched out west during the manifest destiny period. They were in Mich., Minn., Iowa, and Neb. during that time period. They finally ended up in Calif. for my Dad's generation. He ended up here in Ohio when he met my Mother.............Buck 8) ::) :o ;)
