Hi,

anyone knows the correct caliber that must be used in the original '76 45-75.

I try 0.459 chaparral bulletts, but the shot it's hard to fit in the chamber.

Sir Charles deMouton-Black

Cartridges of the World, 3d Edition, states that the bullet diameter fo the .45-75 is .454.

I DO NOT KNOW how the Chapparal is set up.  The 456192 mould I got from John Sellman through these pages drops bullets at .454 using wheel weight metal

I have seen the .454 listed for the 1876, but I believe it is an error.  I sized some to .454, and could not hit the side of a barn from the inside with them! ;D

All of my originals are .457.   That (.457)  is also the number that Mike Venturino came up with for the correct bore size. :)

daxbax, What kind of brass are you using, and what is the length?  What bullet do you have available to you in Italy?

Correct bullet weight is 350 grains.

I agree with Grizzly, all of the original .45-75WCF 1876 rifles and carbines I have owned in the past and those I still own (eight total) have been .457 bore diameter.  The only exception to this is a NWMP carbine that was shipped in 1885.  This gun has a bore size of .455.

Adios,

I use fireformed .348 cases.  My Gould HP bullet, which drops at .457, loads in my Chappie NWMP carbine well enough.  I havn't shot my 456192's for accuracy yet.

The brass I used it's Chaparral too:  http://www.chaparralarms.com/specs/technicalspecs.htm#cases
the bullet it's 0,459 tistributed by chaparral http://www.chaparralarms.com/specs/calibers.htm, the bullet mensioned in 45-75 specs

McLernon

My barrel slugs out at 0.457 inches and I use 0.459 1:20 boolits. BP shoots good if I keep the barrel cool and manage the fouling with a blow tube.

Chaparral
Bore - 452
Groove - 456

Uberti

Bore - 450
Groove - 456

Use a 459 bullet.  Alloy is what your barrel likes best with either smokeless or black powders
