A friend of mine has a lever action rifle which is marked 45-60 and 1876. These are the only markings. I posted this at gunsmithinig and Hoof Hearted said it is a Winchester, so I'm posting here. Any info is appreciated.

Without a photo and some additional information it's pretty hard to say much more than what Hoof Heated said.

Again, photos sure would help.

Grizzly, I got your pm. We'll try to get some pictures tomorrow in the early afternoon.
As far as the $100 goes I'm not sure my friend could figure out what to do with all that money.
Didn't know Homer was into recycling.

I wasn't able to post pictures today. Maybe later in the week. I do have some additional information. I found the serial number but didn't write it down. I think it was 10102. The magazine spring is kinda weak. Maybe the magazine just needs to be cleaned. There is a piece on the top of the receiver that goes backwards when the lever is pushed forward but doesn't go forward when the lever is pulled back. There is no cleaning rod. It has a great trigger. I would like to know if it came from the factory with a trigger that good or if it was polished subsequently. The front sight is a white blade. Maybe ivory. The rear sight is a short cylinder with a notch in the top of it.

We need photos, photos and lots of good photos.  Write down the serial number.
