What grade olive oil?

I noticed some folks use olive oil on leather, so my question is what grade?  Is it the extra virgin or the dark stuff?  I have used neatsfoot oil over the years and if it is heated, it will darken the leather to a dark tan quickly.

I recently did extra virgin, el cheap-o generic version. 3 applications and 3 days in the sun changed the color more than neatsfoot oil ever did for me.

Most makers advocate extra virgin olive oil to avoid rancidity.
