I have a Navy Arms 1860 Army and it has no manufacturers (Pietta/Uberti) marks on it. Nipples that are made for Pietta and Uberti don't fit. Does anyone know who made these guns? I sent it off to Rowdy Yates for his magic and it came back soooooooo sweet.
Thanks for the help.

If memory serves me right.  Navy arms cap and ball revolvers were all made by Uberti.  All of the many C&B revolvrs I purchased from NA back in the early 1970's were Uberti to include the 1860 Army.
Listen!  Do you hear that?  The roar of Cannons and the screams of the dying.  Ahh!  Music to my ears.

In my experience the Uberti & Pietta nipples have different pitches. Uberti 12X28 and Pietta 6X.75
A friend does have a Pietta Navy that is a different pitch but I can't remember, maybe 5.5X.75
You might see if Pietta has changed nipple threads.

If it is an Armi San Marco then the nipples are different.  I have a couple of ASM pistols and cannot get nipple for them from VTI . . haven't tried other places.  Don't shoot them . . they were cheap extras that came along on deals on other stuff . . Look for an ASM on the underside of the barrel.
Beware the man with one gun, he probably knows how to use it.

You can buy a tap and chase the exising nipple threads to fit a Pietta, Uberti or Ruger nipple that is of the same length.

Wolfgang,

Uberti nipples ought to fit an ASM. In fact, I have SS ROA replacement nipples (Uncle Mikes/Butler Creek) in my Hartford ASM 1860 Army. They are 12X28.

BTW Euroarms nipples are 6X.75 like the Piettas.

Maybe so . . . I tried to get nipples from VTI for the ASM pistols and they said "No, didn't have them".  I never followed up or tried anywhere else.

Thanks . . good to know.    I never bothered to look further for them.  Don't shoot those two pistols anyhoooo....

This is one of them . . . . http://www.drburkholter.com/cf4.html . . just left it with 5 nipples when I couldn't get more of them . . . it stays loaded on a shelf over my loading bench but never gets fired.   The trigger guard has now been "bobbed off" as well.  A real old west "belly gun".....  :)

The only identifying marks are "Navy Arms Co., Ridgfield NJ. On the left side of the barrel it says Colt 1860 Army, .44 There are no serial numbers.

Mr Lucre,
Look under the loading ram under the barrel for a manufacturer's mark. ASM or SM would mean Armi San Marco. A bunch of superimposed letters DGG would be Euroarms. An octagonal muzzle with a "U" in the bore would be Uberti.

I have one pistol that has serial numbers only on the frame under the grips.   Grips have to be removed to see the no.   Probably Pietta made as Pietta cylinders fit and index properly in it.  Very low number ( three digits ), . . . so probably a very, very early import.  No makers mark anywhere and an importers mark on one side of the barrel.
Beware the man with one gun, he probably knows how to use it.

Depends on when it was made; but, Navy Arms also sold Piettas.  I have a 1980 Navy Arms L&R that only has proof marks & date code on the frame.  The serial number and FAP, Pietta makers mark, are on the bottom of the backstrap.
