I hate the looks of the hammer on my new army conversion. (Ya know, the flat ungraceful one) Has anyone tried to replace it with a Uberti 1858 Cap N Ball hammer? I was wondering if it was just a drop in replacement or not.

It's been tried (see thread "Will Uberti NMA Hammers Fit Pietta NMA's", and thread "Need Help. Broke my pistola ") and the results are in.  Pietta and Uberti NMA hammers are not interchangeable.

The uberti cartridge conversion's hammer has the silly safety screw on it and it is flat instead of curved, making it very non-original looking when cocked, and almost clumsy. I was just wondering if anyone had taken a uberti 1858 cap and ball hammer and exchanged it on the cartridge conversion to look more correct.

I don't see many of the factory Uberti conversions, so I can't say for sure.
But I will tell you that I believe that the "forged frame" cap and ball gun uses the same frame (I was told the forged frame was made when they made the chamber circle bigger) and maybe someone else knows for certain.

If that is the case, you should be able to make a Forged frame cap and ball hammer work in yer conversion ;)
