Lou Sellman the Lyman distributor received the molds a few days ago and has since shipped the molds that he has received payment for. If you would be interested in this mold please see:

Received mine today (Dec. 24, 2007) via US Mail. Looks good but I did expect bigger grease grooves. Maybe it is just me looking at the mold (the negative as it were). Only got the mold about 1 hour or so ago so, no, I haven't cast any yet.

.900 - length
.282 - metplat
.409 - Nose Length
.457 - Driving Band
.069 - GG Widths
.056 - GG Depth
.457 - 1st Band
.457 - 2nd Band
.458 - Base
342gr naked bullet
1.10gr - SPG Lube (No lube in crimping groove)

After you have had a chance to cast a few, please let us know what the lube capacity is.
My 457192 mold circa mid 1970's hold's about 1.7 grs. of SPG with all three lube grooves filled.

Thank you for the mold dimensions. With 2 grease grooves filled I see that your lube weight
was 1.10 grs. With the top groove filled (not a crimp groove

- crimp just forward of the
front driving band ) it would appear that the lube capacity would be right around 1.6 - 1.7 grs.,
the same as my '70's mold has.

John - on the money. With SPG, it's 1.7gr

I'm getting an average of 1.3 gr. of lube... BTW, I think my mold casts some very nice bullets but with my particular (peculiar

) alloy I'm only getting 344.9 gr. lubed. I have to admit that it has been quite a while since I cast anything in quantity and I'm not sure I remember exactly what the alloy is. Might be a bit harder than 20-1 or 30-1...

Thank you for the info and picture. Your photo indicates that the lube grooves are as wide and as deep as the ones in my '70's mold. Since this lot of molds were produced from the same set up / tooling, one would think that they should be the same. Just curious, what lube were you using to determine the lube weight?

I guess I used some RCBS stick lube!

Still had some in the Lubamatic to get rid of...

I'll re-weigh with the SPG.

So far I've cast up about 90 of these. My little pot can't do more than 35-40 good ones in a melt. This strings out my time and I've been experimenting a bit. Now I need to try these over H4198 (but only want to reach BP velocities). I need a good sunny day but haven't had one correspond with free time in a while.

However, I just love the way this mold casts! The bullets are wonderful! I wish all molds would cast bullets as nice as these.

Finally got a chance to drop my reins & loosen the cinch. Received my mold just before Christmas (Thanks John & Lou!!). Briefly fired things up last Saturday for a few minutes (between honey-do's) and was very pleased! Will post again after my new Lyman Furnace comes in & I have a chance to use it.

Spoke with Lou Sellman today and he said that he has about 40 of the Ideal 457192 molds still in his inventory.

So that means folks that said they wanted the mold have not purchased it from Lou ...

Would be nice if those that didn't order yet ... Would!

Seeing this post, I went ahead and emailed Lou Sellman today to see about getting one of those molds. I hope he still has them in stock.

Thanks for the post about Lou still having some of the 457192 moulds. I thought I had missed out on the chance to get one.

I got mine from this bunch. With wheel weight metal, it comes out at .456 diameter. Has anyone else measured theirs?
