I currently have a Tippman Boss sewing machine.  I find that it is a great hole punch, but I am tired of hand stiching all my work.  Has anyone had any experience with the Artisan machines?

I don't know a lot about machines, but there are a lot here who use different ones. I'm sure someone more knowledgable will chime in. I'd like to say, welcome to the forum, TN. Looking forward to your posts.

Howdy Mongo,

Hey man all you have to do is ask.  The Artisan is a copy of the Juki 441, at about half the price.  Come over to the house and I will let you play with the Ferdco 2000, which is also a copy of the Juki 441.   You can see all of their machines at .....www.artisansew.com

If you order one make sure you get a DC drive servo motor..very controlable motor speeds.  I would recommend the TORO 4000R..depending on the type of stand, type of motor, and accessories the price starts at about $3,400.00.  The shipping will probably cost around $400.00

By the way pardners...TN. Mongo is a fellow leathersmith and shooter in the clubs I belong to...Welcome him on board.

For those of you that like the Adler 205...they just came out with a new version with a 16" throat.

Also, for those of you that may be interested in sewing machines check out the Ferdco.com site.  They have many used machines listed for sale.

Thanks fo the greeting Marshal Will!  I currently hand stich everything and I like the results.  It just takes forever to hand stich.

Outrider,

I've been on the Ferdco and Artisan websites.  I know the Fedrcos are good machines, but the Artisan machine seem to be a lot less expensive.  That is why I was curious as to whether they were a quality machine or not.

Mongo,

They are both copies of the Juki 441 and both made in China.  My invite was to allow you to see that type of configuration in the machine since the Artisan and the Ferdco are basically the same format.   Also keep in mind that you will have to pay extra if you want the saddler's accessory package.  The Ferdco package is $1,000.00

I upgraded from the Tippman Boss to the Artisan Toro 3000 a couple of years ago. It's an excellent stitcher and will stitch up to 3/4" of leather. I use mine for holsters. Also, I believe there customer service is the best in the business.

Thanks Ten Wolves!  Outrider is a character, but a fine fellow.

Randyc,

Thanks for the info.  I want to get something that works well for a decent price.  I have never been satisfied with my Tippman Boss.
