Will, how did you dye this holster?

Morning Will. I was looking through the threads, trying to find a color I liked for the belt-holster set i'm working on, and came across this one of yours. I think the color is outstanding, and I'm hoping you could point me in the right direction to produce a similiar color on mine. I do appreciate it, JD

If anyone else would like to weigh in on color, I'd sure appreciate the advice.

That was done with medium brown. I just kept layering it on with a cotton dauber until it wouldn't take any more. It really came out with a rich color. I put a light coat of neatsfoot oil and a liquid sadle soap/conditioner on after I had the color the way I wanted.

Thanks Will. I have Fiebings Saddle Tan, Light and Dark Brown, and Black so far. I'm making a trip to Tandy today, taking a friend who can't drive any more (Poilo) I will pick up 4 oz bottles of Medium Brown and a few others, and see what I can come up with.

I'm sure Durum at Tandy will know, but can you mix Fiebings alcohol based dye with the Pro oil dye, seeing as it's alcohol based as well?

Thanks very much, JD

I'd have to say, judging from the size of the picture, the answer would be "with a very small brush!"

Sorry parson. It was too good to pass up! :D

I do like that color though, Marshall. Nice work!

You know, JD, you could probably get a similar color with dark brown if you thinned it out slightly with alcohol or even mix light and dark together. Of course, dark brown won't be much different than medium put on very heavily.

Thanks, RT. You're right, a small brush would have been more appropriate. ;D

Hey, JD, if you click on the thumbnail and bring up the full sized photo, you can link to that and have a larger one in your post next time if you like.

Will, not being real tech savy when it comes to compooters, especially photos, links & such, I really don't know what you mean. My wife's pretty good with this stuff, so I'll show her your reply and she if she understands what you are saying.

Second, I don't think want my pictures all that big and clear! All the mess ups are too obvious. I keep telling myself "That was your first one, and you learned a few things from doing it" but it doesn't help a lot :P

Hey RT, I think Leno's calling to book you as a comedian. Is that the phone I hear? Nah, just the normal ringing in my ears :o

Click on the thumbnail to bring up the larger photo. To link to the image, right click on it and go to "Properties". Copy the URL. Click on the image button above the text area and paste the URL you copied between the [ img][/img ] (I had to add a couple spaces here to show it).
