New Rig

Hi folks
Hope this is the spot for my ??
I just received my new rig from El Paso Saddlery .. It is a great piece of work and I am so pleased with it . I have saved for a bit to order it and am not disappointed .

I am anxious to get at er right away so to my question
The holsters are lined  and will take some time to 'break' in .

Is there anything I can use on the liner to slick it up a bit , or should I just keep working the Navy RM's  in and out . I do not want to mess it up but if there is a conditioner I could use to make it easier I would be grateful for your help /

The rig is already formed to the guns ..thanks to help from the Forum.

I am not going to recommend it, as I dont know what the long term effects are, but a pard of mine uses spray silicone on his.
Heck, another one uses PAM cooking spray.

Myself, I just wear em in, until they are smooth.

I've heard of using talc powder in them but I haven't used any myself and can't attest to the effectiveness.

    Dutchy        Their is a product  Called KG 9 Systems,Micro-PTFE,Leather Kote. Ive never used it,got a can a year ago in the shooters pack,at a regional shoot.To me PTFE  is Teflon,Im not to hot about rubing in my leather.I also happen to to have a lined El Paso holster from back in 84,and Ive never put any thing on the lining. I have some lanolin, that once a year I hand rub a very light coat,was told to do that by them when I asked. I guess if I was to try the stuff I would use it on a scrap of leather ,for a period of time to see what hapens,I dont want to oil sateurate my leather. If you were interested in locating the KG-9 product I know Brownells carrys it. Maybe some of the fine craftsmen in here have some experince with it ,good or bad.      Adios  Sgt.Jake

Guys , I think you have already answered my question . I am pretty hesitant about using anything on the leather.

Over time it will slick up by itself . The guy from EP said maybe one a year to use a good leather conditioner just to keep it in shape .

I think I'll leave well enough alone.

I will suggest Skidmores Leather Cream for your conditioner. Works great and gives it a nice mellow glow. Not super shiny, which to me is good.

Yep Skidmores or Lexol Conditioner - to help slick the inside - pure beeswax.
LIGHTLY warm the interior (a hair dryer on low held not too long) then apply the wax. To apply the wax warm it in your hand until malleable and then rub it onto a soft cloth and apply. Leave for a half hour or so and then rub briskly with a soft cloth. If they're a bit too tight leaving the guns in for a few days at a time and then drawing them in and out for a while will mold the holsters to the shape without over doing it.

If you have a leather  store near you , try  some  pure Carnuba wax. Put it on a piece of sheep skin and rub it lightly on the leather and let dry. then with a  clean piece of sheepskin  buff it out. It will protect and give life to the leather and make it slicker than snot on a door knob.
If you dont have sheepskin use a diaper or cotton cloth.. A little goes a long way.
Carnuba is a natural product that will help preserve the leather also. Be sure its the liquid wax. I think Tandy carries it but I know that Weavers leather does for sure.
