Winchester Status

So what's going on with the Winchester Company, or name?

FN bought the company a few years ago.
I was visiting the FN USA plant and found some of the Winchester equipment had been moved in and was getting up to speed. I also helped ID a number of classic Winchesters that had been placed on the wall for display, inclding some cutaways.
Expect to see selected Winchester products being reintroduced.

They've been steadily turning out limited runs of 86's,85's,92's and 95's. The Model 70 is in full production, they are announcing an Oliver Winchester 200'th birthday commerative 94, and then the word is we can see the 94 back in full swing in 11.

A recent magazine article I read says they are bringing back the Model 94 but for now ,only in higher grades.

I'm kinda hoping for '87, '66 and '73 in various grades.

All of the 86's, 85's, 92's and 95's are built by Miroku in Japan. Wish it was economically feasible for Winchester to actually make them in the U.S. But, Miroku are exceptional quality firearms.

They have the Wincester roll mark and wp proof on them. Miroku I think is a subsidiary of FN, just like Winchester , and Browning.

The Japo made Winchester '94s are out. The "High Grade" 94 sells for $1469.00. The "Custom Grade" model goes for $1959.00.

Seems like a lot of money... even for a fancy '94.

These are supposed to be commemorative models celebrating Oliver Winchester's 200th birthday. I think they're only going to make like 500 of each. The word is, they intend to bring out the cheaper, plain version of the model '94 at some time in the near future.

I love my old '94 in caliber 30-30. Mine was made in the 70s.

A little update from the land of Winchester. East Alton, IL

FN does not own the Winchester trademark, they are only licensed through their Browning subsidiary by Olin Corporation to manufacture and distribute Winchester arms. Olin Corporation still owns Winchester trademark, so they basically still own Winchester. See www.winchesterint.com
