Iv thought about a new revolver...I pondered a USFA Rodeo,,but ya know what I really want,,a RIchards Mason Army Conversion .44colt. I have an Open Top .44 and love it. With a good 'tune up ' I think they are a fine revolver. Maybe not exactly the quality of a USFA,,but plenty good enough. We'll see,,since money is scarce anyways,,but I'd love to have one. Was thinking about a '73win carbine but I believe thats gonna be outta the question this year.

I do have Chuck Burrows of Wild Rose making me a kick butt cartridge cartridge belt pouch,,,I'll show ya'll pics of that when shes done.

A guy jest has to have a toy once in a while to keep him alive, eh ?

Who has Richards Masons here, and what do you think of yours ?
Any of you got 'ivory or Ivory substitue grips on yours ?

Thanks guys,
MD

Have an Uberti RM Army of 2002 production in .44 Colt. Replaced the factory wooden grips with a pair of Gripmaker's PU ivory grips. Was fun to fit them during the cold season a couple of years back.
After around 300 round of of light CAS nitro loads the front sight has gone missing. The German dealer provided a replacement which I fixed with epoxy. 2 years ago I had the arbor bottemed which is a recommendable procedure with all these OT type Uberti pistols. Apart from that no issues affecting the shooting fun. As for holster is use a Slim Jim type that was originally made for an SAA. Fit is just fine.
Reliable shooter, printing a bit high like they all do a 25 yard which is no problem at the usual CAS distances. Accuracy is fine if I do my part.

I have a 51 Navy R&M conversion I traded for. It's a 38 and was nice out of the box.
But I decided to send it to Long Hunter, the gun is pure joy now.  It's PC front Sight does want for a slightly low hold though.

My other two conversions are Type 1 Richards 1860's one by Kenny Howell the other is a USPFA both are sweet shooters.

I'm very ,very partial and fond of all three

when planets align...do the deal !

I have a uberti R&M Navy in 38 special. Very nice and dependable gun. I lightened the mainspring a little and that's about all it needed.

I have owned two pair of Richards-Mason pistols -- a pair of  "Army" pistols in .44 Colt, and a pair of "Navy"  in .38 spl.  I put Navy grip frames on the Army shooters, though, because the Army grip just doesn' fit my hands

I really like their feel, balance and consistency.  I also like that you can take 'em apart in the wink of an eye, and can soak the barrels overnight in cleaner before putting brushes and patches to 'em.  In fact, of all the pistols I have ever owned, I think the R-Ms are the easiest to clean and maintain.  Your mileage, obviously, may vary.

I absolutely fell in love with a pair of Uberti New Model Army pistols, and sold the Army R-M's to a CAS friend.  He still has 'em, and still loves 'em.  The Navy shooters are my backups.

Incidentally, all four pistols have the long (8" and 7.5") barrels.  I also have a pair of 5.25" barrel assemblies for my Navy Shooters, and can change 'em out in a jiffy.

Howdy Marshall,

Last August I bought a Cimarron Richards Transition Model in .44 colt with an 8" barrel.  Recently I installed a set of Corian Grips on it.
I'm very happy with the way it shoots.

I also have a Taylor's 1871 RM Conversion in .38 Special. The barrel was cut down to 4" long for use as a pocket pistol.

That 1872 is one beautiful gun, and those Ivory grips really set it off, got to get me one of these some day.

    That's not a '72. It's a Richard's conversion of an 1860 Army.

I have a pair of .44s of the R-M, Army grips (factory wood). Mine are early production Uberti & have 7 1/2 inch tubes.
Very nice. I feed them a diet of .44 Russian cartridge loads having 18 gr of Black Powder and a 200 grain conical ball.
Bought them used (although they virtually unused). Several years of shooting (CAS) use, hoolding up quite well. Overall I'm very satisfied with them.

Slim
